How can I identify what engine I have?

Hi everyone.

I'm building a single seater track car and I've bought an fz6 engine off eBay.

I need to buy a loom, ecu, throttle bodies etc so I need to know exactly what engine I have

It was sold as a fz6s black fazer engine model 2008.

It has 5vx00 stamped on the head and 5sl01 on the side of the block

Can I buy any loom and ecu etc from that year or does it need to be specific?

Apparently there are 3 engine versions from 2008?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

The ECU part numbers are the same save for the first 3 characters- '04-06 are 5VX, '07-08 are 4S8. IIRC in Yamaha parts speak, that makes them pretty much the same. Also, both versions are described as "ENGINE CONTROL UNIT ASSY U49", with that U49 being replaced by CA for the California versions here in the states. My guess is that would indicate the programming, further indicating that they're the same.

I don't know of any differences like that between the pre- and post-'07 models, but I only own an '04. My hunch is that as long as you don't buy parts for an FZ6R (and maybe even if you do) they should be compatible.

As for three engine versions, I have no idea, might be a Euro emissions/performance related thing. I recall reading somewhere that some regular FZ models across the pond had the lowered power of the FZ6R, too.

was it an fz62? not sure what an fz6s would be otherwise

i imagine the loom from an earlier model would also work, but don't hold me to that (2004+)

power output is suposed to be 98 at the crank

Cheers for that. I've found throttle bodies and looms so I'll get them and let u know if it works!
