Hondas are fast this year...maybe due to a DCT-like system?

I think any bike that looks this good has got to go faster!
I met some one who worked in Spain for Repsol doing the graphics.
We rode together a couple of times up and down Palomar Mountain. He rode a Repsol Honda CBR1000rr.

The riders are on their game!

Ita plain and simple...the Honda was already fast! The difference is stoner...now they have someone who is fast at every track riding them!

The only reason Ducati won anything in the last 2 years was stoner!!! Look at the whinging wossi now...he is scared to ride like stoner on the ducati donkey!

Plain and simple!

Yes, but ALL of the factory Hondas are near the front this year so far. That is my point...the bikes have some upgrades that have clicked with the riders.

Dovi and pedrosa are about the same place they were last year, simoncelli now has full factory support, and a years experience in the premier class, so has caught up!

Pedrosa looked like a condemned man on the podium and at the press conference after race 1. He knows the difference is stoner too!

Even Jerry burgess has said as much!!!

Yep, that's what I think.

And the boy joins an elite club in the current MotoGp rider ranks. Only Rossi, Capirossi and now Stoner are the only people to win on different bikes

LMFAO! The difference isn't hidden in the bike. He's sitting on top of it and making sure the other riders have to lift their game. Pedrosa was fast at times last year too. But it only seems to happen at certain times. Dovi was back in the pack a bit, and still is. Spies should be faster on the yammie, and Sideshow Bob is on a decent bike now. There isn't that much difference, aside from the Ducati being so far back. I personally think it's a testament to how well Stoner could ride it. We all know Woosy can ride. Can't ride that thing well though, can he?

I'm thinking that there's a real chance that Ducati's and Honda's only world championships in 800cc's are gonna be due to the same thing.

Honda has thrown money after the motogp project too make sure they win at least one 800cc championship, which has resulted in them having an impressive package, riders, bikes, engineers etc.

And there is definitely something about that gearbox.

And Dennis Noyes have an idea where it came from.
MOTO RACING - MOTOGP: Noyes' Notebook: Invent A Better Gearbox
AND we have only finish the first race off the season, so let's see what the others come up with too respond.
(If they even bother since they are all working on the bikes for the new class in 2012)

I repeat....the only difference is STONER! Will win the championship by a million mile this year!

Sorry, forgot which forum I was on :D

Wait, I'll just........ Nope still think Honda has a great package.
When you can put 4 riders in top 5 and have 3 seconds down too number 6, you're doing something right.

And yes I know of the 3.5 second difference from Stoner too Lorenzo. I've never said the guy wasn't talented, but that was not was I was going for anyway.

I do not think Honda would do anything deliberately illegal, but I expect they are pushing the envelope, as they should.

We need a few more races to see what is what.

Fastest lap last year at Qatar was lap 5 Casey Stoner with a 1:55.537.

Fastest lap this year at Qatar was lap 13 Casey Stoner with a 1:55.366

This new nitrous injected blown bigblock V8 Honda doesn't seem to make that much difference...lol...I'm thinking Casey likes the Chassis though:D.

Jorge Lorenzo was second last year and this year, and his times reflect a huge improvement for the Yammie. 2010 42:51.121 for the race. 2011 42:42.009. That Yammie is 9 seconds faster, with the same rider. Must be turbo charged?

Sideshow Bob improved outta sight, 'cause he's now on a factory Honda, and Rossi is slower 'cause he's riding that....thing.

Pedrosa ran off or similar if I remember correctly last year, so we can't compare him, although he started well, and would've been up the order.

Dovi came in third last year, and fourth this year. And Hayden did worse this year, than last year, so he should've been up the order. Spies should've done better than he did I reckon, but the times and the order are not that much different if you take the time to analyse them.

I'm sure the Honda is better this year than last year, but so must be the Yammie looking at Jorge's times, so what's everyone moaning about?

I don't think anybody's moaning, because if Honda got accused of cheating, with a DCT-like gearbox, wouldn't the scrutineers take it apart and find out?
Maybe that would just be to easy and rumors are more fun :D

Just to clarify, I wasn't pointing a finger at Honda and saying their success is totally based on new gear box technology. A capable rider is key, of course, and now they have 4 strong riders. But any whiz-bang tech that can give them an advantage, then by all means put it in there! The DCT on the VFR interests me and seeing that they might be tapping into that technology with a MotoGP bike intrigued me even more.

Things really ebb and flow between the various bike manufacturers...every one of them has those periods of times where things seem to suck for them, then they innovate, get the right rider and the chemistry happens. The Hondas are flowing this year. The Ducs got some work to do. Yamahas are consistent but need more power, a common complaint of all of the Yamaha riders.

The Honda is definitely fast in a straight line compared to the Yamaha, just watch Sunday's race again, and watch em blow past Lorenzo on the main straight....

The Honda was also fast at the end of last season....

The Ducati is still fast in a straight line, it just dont like going around corners!

As for Suzuki....Oh Gosh!

I dunno. I still reckon the biggest improvement I saw was Lorenzo on the Yammie. I'd be trying to find out what they've done to score them an extra nine seconds out of the race.

The Hondas (or more accurately Pedrosa) last year got down the straight bits blisteringly fast, but have a look at Pedrosa on the straight at Qatar. He must've had a sh.....ave before the race I reckon, cause he pulled away from Casey on the straight bit. Of course then it comes to the corners:rockon::rockon:

I do think Casey's race time would have been faster.

When he and Dani were originally 1-2, they were pushing 1'55"s out of each other. When Dani got to the front, the pace dropped back into 1'56"s. Kinda reminds me of a former Repsol rider Alex Criville :D

Once Casey took the lead again, pace went up & he had 2 seconds on him in 3 laps.
