HITCH CARRIER: Taking the bike with me!!

The Army keeps sending me away from home on temporary duty and I finally got tired of being away from my bike...especially as the weather warms up. So I bought this hitch carrier (didn't have storage space for a trailer) that I can store right in the back of the truck once the I unload the bike. I have about a 2hr drive today, but at least when I get there I'll have my baby with me.

Wish me luck and I'll post more on how the trip goes.

Assembly wasn't too hard, loading was pretty simple, and the carrier is rock solid also. My brother came over and helped me with the load up. I wouldn't recommend doing it alone.
We'll see how the trip goes, but initial impressions are very good. Bike is solid on the carrier and there is little to no movement on the hitch.

I know how ya feel with being posted everywhere and missing the bike. I missed half of my racing season last year because of it.
And the crappy part, next dec till feb/march I'll be in California training with you guys for afghanistan and I can't bring the bike...
Carrier looks cool, but I just wouldn't trust it lol.

Don't think I would either.
I'm pretty sure I would have just taken the cap off the truck and ramped it in.

my buddy has one he uses to trek his dirtbike around... his is made for dirtbikes... some are for dirtbikes.. some are for streetbikes... i think they hold up to 600 lbs... they are real good quality.

we are making something at work for a customer now... it goes into the hitch and is basically a wheel chock.. you get the front wheel up, and it drags the rear wheel behind on the road. (hope it doesnt pop in firs by accident) those i dont think are real safe..

Well...made it with no problems at all. Hitch carrier didn't budge and I was very impressed with it overall. It is definately a very solid construction.

I thought about taking the lid of the bed of the truck, but thats one of those pieces of kit you don't want to take off and on...plus you have to store it completely flat...blah blah blah.

I use to stow my mountain bike in one of the ship's holds so when we hit our mid patrol breaks I could get away from the ship

I am in the Canadian forces. We leave Dec 28th (way to destroy my last holidays with the familly, don't even get new years!) for Cali. We get flown down there. Then we train, not much time off and then we come back here, and leave for Afghan... I couldn't ride it down during break and then fly home because most of the ride would be really snow covered. Ah well, I'll make it home by the fall and have to wait untill summer of 2011 to ride it again lol.

Not sure about getting permission to ride it as your primary vehicle, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. I brought mine seperately, so I know the Army will not pay me mileage, but it wasn't really a concern for me. Just glad to have it with me.
