Help!

so, i have been having this problem for about 200 miles and have been trying to fix it. the bike will run great when its cold, but once it gets up to operation tempature, or has been there for a bit ,it starts running like crap, not being able to hold an idle. The exhaust note changes, and the on/off throttle transition gets very rough, sputtering, etc. it cut out bad in a corner tonight. it doesnt get noticably slower when this happens, at WOT, but down low it does.

K and N

the problem was occuring with the stock map, and stock air filter as well as with a custom map and K and N. i thought it was the plugs, because my bike has about 8600 miles on the stock plugs. the stock ones were fouled badly. so i got stock replacements, checked the gap, and threw them in last night. still going on gonna take it to the moto shop tomarrow or saturday. anyone had this happen to them?

i checked the codes with turnin the bike on and off, but the check engine light comes on as regular. im freakin bummed out.

It sounds like a clogged catalytic converter.

Just going on experince with cars.

or the TPS sensor could of failed but that doesnt jive with only when warm.

you can perform a self test of the TPS by going into the diagnostic mode and test it out there, I forget the exact process to do it but someone will know

When was the last time your throttle bodies were sync'd?

My brother's bike (MtnCarver) was doing the same thing recently, we re-sync'd his throttle bodies and it is running like new again.:thumbup:

Also definitely check the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) as Sportrider said, especially since you have an '05. Some of that batch still had the problems that the '04 bikes did with the TPS.

You are supposed to do this every 4k miles if memory serves me right (someone correct me if I'm wrong). It does take a special tool that measures pressure of the individial throttle bodies. If you do a search you'll find people who have made one from easily accessable parts from HomeDepot (or the like). I personally bought this one and have had great success with it and highly recommend it to anyone.link

didnt want to mess with it. dropped it off at about 1pm, just went and got it. got the tps replaced under the recall warranty, and the throttle bodies synched. runnin great!! :rockon:

Glad to hear it wasn't something more serious. I figured it was likely one of those two, but I guess we'll never really know which one was the culpret
