Guys, this is my2nd post in this forum, though I am a regular here. Yesterday I had done an oil change from the dealers and some other small things such as chain tightening, general fluid check etc. While riding back there was a strange sound (humm.) from the engine, while I give the throttle, it is very obivious and turns into almost liek a howling at three digit speeds. I checked with them and they said it might be due to the tightened chain, but i could not make out if it is from the engine or chain. they asked me to ride is for a week to see if goes off when the chain gets loose. Could some of you help me please?

Why not measure the chain yourself? It's not hard to do. Obviously check oil level too.. make sure it's in the right place.

The probably over tightened it and the longer you ride it, the harder it is on the chain, sprockets and output gear. You can potentially break the chain, throw it thru the cases, etc...

Put it on the centerstand and measure the up and down TOTAL PLAY (I measure at a center link). At where the plastic chain guard ends is where you should be looking. 2"" TOTAL is the magic number.

I would also be looking for another shop if its overtightened and they let you leave with it in that condition..

Was it lubed at least?

+1 on the overtightened chain and bearings - had to replace the bearing inside the chain sprocket (1 of 3 bearings on the rear wheel) bearing due to an overtightened chain.

I agree that the chain will not stretch but instead cause damage to the bike which will put you at jeopardy for injury or death. They are not qualified to work on your bike! :spank:
Chances are that you can have damage to your bearing and chain when you rode it home. This can also cause shifting problems.
Even a brand new chain should be set to the factory specification. If they over tightened the chain they also didn't align the rear wheel.
Look up and find a real technician/mechanic to work on your bike.

i find the "ride it 'til it's looser" suggestion from the shop unacceptable. why not just check the chain for you and adjust it....looser? if its NOT the chain the noise would persist. also my understanding is its much better to have a chain with somewhat too much slack then a chain too tight! and any dealer / pro shop can adjust a chain in 5 minutes so this is poor service imo
