help! broken down, can't get home

Hello,
I have a 2008 FZ6. Just went to start it to go home and the red light with the key (that normally blinks to show immobiliser is working) starts flashing like mad when I turn the key to on. Nothing happens after this

Is my key broken or something else? is there a way to fix it? It's only just over 2 years old and done just a couple of thousand miles, almost all dry weather.

I have the spare key in the house and the special red key, though I've no idea how to use it if that's the problem and I'm miles and miles away.

btw, I'm not certain but I'm sure the immobiliser light isn't doing it's normal periodic flash.

I'd you use the steering lock, did you leave the side lights on and now have a flat battery? (I did this 2 weeks after I got mine )

If this is the case you should be able to bump start it . .

Right, immoliser light is flashing normally with no key in, then when I stick it in the immobiliser light looks like it's flashing three times then two times then three times rapidly.

If I try and start it, I just get a clicking noise. The lights seem to be full beam.

flat battery. who would have thought 10 hours of that little light would break it. It's so damn near the wheel lock. I think I'll not bother with the lock anymore.

It just put me in the completely wrong track with the wierd immobiliser flashing lights sequence.

It's on with the charger tonight and hope I don't stall

When you try to start and it is clicking do the lights dim? If so sound like a flat battery.

I have only left the parking lights on once. Always use the steering lock. Have you push/ bump started ok ?

The red key... This key has immobilizer code in it.If for any reason your regular or spare key looses this code (something like you thought about),you take your damaged key and your red key and you go to the yamaha dealer and he will encode your regular key from the red one... Important note: Never use your red key to start your bike.

Luckily I work on a bank. It was the battery, I was fearing the worst. It was those rapid flashing immobiliser lights and bright headlight that made me assume it was immobiliser.

Obviously user error but I blame two things, one not having a parking light indicator on the dash and two that (only fault I can find on the bike) design flaw on the naked fz6 that drives me mad every morning being the clutch cable going right over the ignition switch.

It's real easy to leave the parking lights on, you'll only so it once, when using the steering lock. One thing I did was to change the side/pod lights to LED to reduce the battery drain (plus they are much brighter)

Are UK bikes different? On my 2006 USDM FZ6 there is no way to leave the parking lights on if the key is in the "OFF" position.

As far as I understood the unfortunate guy thought he turned the key to steering lock, but accidently turned it a notch further and turned on the parking lights. Nope there is no way to turn on parking lights in OFF position in Denmark either

If you are affraid that you are going to turn on the parking lights (and don't want to walk to the front of the bike every single time to check) then just do like me => Turn the key all the way to "parking light" and then one click back to "steering lock". I think I just made this a habit.
Or just look over your shoulder when leaving the bike and you'd notice if the parking light is on or not + reminding yourself how damn lucky you are owning a thing like that!

Oh. See on my 2006 there is no "parking light" key position there is simply ON, OFF and LOCK. The lights will only come on in the ON position and the cluster comes on with the parking lights, letting you know you left it on.

When you put parking light on (on bike/in car), just flip the side light indicator switch left/right/up/down to select what side the parking light should be lit... all of this only if you park on a badly lit road... but few people really do this and I have never heard of anyone being fined for not doing it.

Do you really have to select what side the parking lights should be lit on in Denmark. It just introduces one more thing that can go wrong, and what if someone by accident turn the lights on on the wrong side? Not good... In Norway both sides are lit no matter what side you park on.

I believe so... it's to clarify that it is really parking light!
But then again I have only seen very very few cars using this feature.
I have never used it... I'd rather park in a a less "dangerous" spot further around the corner and walk the extra 200 metres back.

Yes you can.

Have done it on my fz6 naked '05 and on my brothers fz6s '07

You can pretty much replace any light with an LED light on your bike. Looks better, is more visible, drains less power and doesn't get burned that often!

We have some stupid laws in the US but that is by far the dumbest law I've heard....so if you park for more than 12 hours chances are your battery is dead when you wish to drive off? That is crazy.
