As we all know (or should know) there are massive amounts of options to choose from when it comes to putting you head in a container. most of these foam filled, polymer, skull sliders have been designed in a wind tunnel to reduce drag and buffeting that create turbulence (wind noise & bouncing). what they dont do is test these shapes with the mindset that the rider will most likely be on a motorcycle, behind a windscreen, which causes a completely different airflow.
Sweaterdude Solution:
tools needed- car/trailer, your bike, 2 industrial shop fans/leaf blowers, and maybe that APP that monitors decibel levels, the centerstand will also be of use.
So you go to your local shop (the place where helmets are sold and you can try them on) toting all of the required materials. have two or more of the associates help you (they wont be busy). set your bike on the centerstand and have the 2 cronies start the fans/leaf blowers. sit on your bike as you normally would, with the fans/leaf blowers pointed at you from about 5-10' (2-3m) away. do this with the each of the helmets that you are thinking of purchasing.
*you will probably need to be in the makeshift "windtunnel" for 2-3 minutes for each helmet.
At some point there will likely be a time where one of the 2 sales associates will ask you if all of this is "necessary." it is important to reply with a firm "YES" and explain that it is the only way that you will be secure enough in your decision to purchase a helmet from them.
*side note, if the prices are steep at your local shop (very possible), carry out with the test and purchase whichever helmet you have chosen online.
