Hello new friends

I just bought myself a used 2004 FZ6 (only 5k miles!).

I am upgrading from a 1992 Seca II (my first bike, given to me last year).

When I test rode it I must say I felt right at home in a lot of ways but there really isn't a single way this bike isn't a million times better, but it does feel like a spiritual successor to my old Seca.

I am very happy / excited about my purchase, no more carburetors / choke / crazy electrical system (yet). I commute to work on my bike just about every day and the riding triangle is even better on the FZ6, (higher bars) I can see why the bike has inspired such a fan base.

I'm here in Boston (metro-west) and apologize if threads like these are frowned upon or supposed to be in a certain spot, though I'm sure a mod will help me with that soon enough if that's the case.

The only two mods im interested in, if you can call them that, would be heated hand grips (not right away but I do ride in the winter) and some saddle bags, is there a general consensus about either of those?

Ok maybe I'd be interested in getting rid of the "winking" head lights too. And am I blind or is there no helmet lock on this bike (little bummed if that's the case)

Being a member gives you access to the search button that helps with some questions, but i'm sure people will respond who have them, i believe givi makes hard cases for the fz6 and i've heard good stuff about them.

Welcome. Seca II, eh? I remember when I was in my early teens I used to drool over that bike in the magazines, but I didn't end up riding until a decade and 1/2 later. Funny enough, I ended up on a similar motorcycle without even thinking about it.

Yeah, no helmet lock. It is a bummer. I use a snowboard lock I have around the bars, but it could likely be defeated with some toe nail clippers.

I just ordered a top case, though, so that will help. I'd prefer panniers, but the sticker shock on those made me decide to start with the top case and add them later if needed. This is what I ordered FWIW:

It's solid. Still a bit cold in the mornings but that's why I have a jacket with removable liners.

I'd love to meet some cool people to ride with, so im definitely in some other time but tomorrow I gotta ride down to bridgewater and then go to a wedding, then watch the bruins game.

Not yet, it needs a lot of thugs done to it, new fork seals, oil change, and the engine has started to make a knocking sound on acceleration, the clymer manual says that could be anything from the fuel grade being too low to carbon build up in the combustion chamber to bad spark plugs to piston slap, so selling it wont be too easy im sure. There's also the electrical gremlins in that bike, though I do have a spare wiring harness in hand.

It was given to me so I thought about paying it forward and giving it to a friend to get them into motorcycling but Im afraid there would be guilt weighing over my head knowing I gave them a bike that's such a hassle. It's like giving someone a syringe, a tourniquet and a sliver of heroin. Then when that's gone they say "hey, im addicted to heroin now, but what you gave me is all gone" and I say "yeah, guess you're going to have to go buy your own eh?"

I know that's silly but still.

The only time the stereotypical one ever comes out of me is if im drunk or if im kidding around. "Dood, when we hittin dunkins guy fahkin im hung ova as balls kehd."
