Hi
to be brief i'm Porky from the UK, near London - i am looking at possibly changing/getting a FZ6
who knows - in the present economic climate,
i have a Suzuki GSR 600 at the moment, it is coming up to its third birthday
so over here its due an mot test , not that thats a problem as its only done
7k miles, of course its black & has a few bolt on mods,
i just wanna get some input into any potential problems this bike may have,
throttle issues / brakes or anything to be aware of before viewing.
Thanks all

What's a MOT test for us American folk?

"An MOT test is primarily a road safety measure introduced by the Ministry of Transport as a means of ensuring that all vehicles on the road, which are over 3 years old, are road worthy, properly maintained and meet the minimum safety and environmental standards.

If you have a vehicle that is three or more years old, you are legally required to have an MOT test undertaken annually at an approved MOT testing station."

What's your equivalent in the US?

Most people around here have never heard of a GSR600 let alone a GRS600.:D

The GSR and the FZ6N are very similar, the FZ is of course better.;)

No major problems, some minor ones. head race seems a bit open to getting rusty. The gearbox has a bit of a thunk from 1 to 2, some TPS issues with older models, the clutch can be a bit hard to master, so they say. The suspension is a bit soft, but probably better than the GSR thou.

The brakes on the FZ are very good as is the engine.

Have you looked at a Hornet or a Street Triple?

:welcome: to the forum Porky.

The first time I read your post I thought you was talking about problems with your GRS600, but when I read it again later you was clearly talking about possible problems with the FZ6, sorry
I love my FZ6 but my few critisisms would be that the clutch takes a bit of getting used to and that the change between 1st and 2nd gear is a bit clunky. I've never had any problems with the throttle or the brakes.
Hope this helps a bit.

For general road worthiness, I don't foresee you having a problem to US standards. It runs well, everything is tight, it's not smoking, and you've got tread in your tires.

We don't have that kind of test here in the US...even in CA where there are the harshest emissions laws.

Ministry of Transport

Are they closely related to th Ministry of Magic at all ? :D.......Ohh yeah and :welcome: Porky , no issues at all with my FZ6......You can fix the "clunky" gearbox with synthetic oil and Yamaha had a major recall on all the older FZ6's to fix the TPS problem so this shouldnt be a problem for you either......Umm what else is there , i dont have an issue with the suspension being to soft and im a BIG unit , its never stuggled to keep me planted....I havent stuck the rust problem either , perhaps the rusty one's live right next to the ocean in which you would expect rust due to the salty air......Hope thats helps you mate
