Headlight? Question

So I look at my headlight today to check everythings ok as my MOT is due soon, and I noticed that there's some sort of bulb thing at the top of my headlight which doesn't light up at all.
The main bulb comes on at front when i got my headlights on dipped, and the light switches to the back of the bulb on full beam.
I've looked in my Haynes manual but there's no mention of this other bulb/part of the headlight.
Here's a picture of the part I mean:

What is ?
Is it a bulb, is it something else, or is it nothing?
If its a bulb, when is it supposed to light up.

Yes it is a small bulb and it should light up along with the taillight and the LCD instrument when you turn the key into the ignition switch to ON.

And does this light just come on at ignition then go straight off?

It stays on for as long as the key is turned to ON. Also it lights up (again together with the tailight and the license plate light that i forgot to mention earlier) when you turn the key to the parking light position.
In my manual this small bulb has the description "auxiliary light".
