Got 05 FZ6

Hi am I new member to the forum. I just bought a 2005
FZ6 with a Corbin seat. That seat makes all the difference in the world. The only complaint I have with the Fz6 is that my front forks are very soft. I didn't know if that is just my bike or is that common for the Fz6.

R6 front forks are a popular mod, but first, like mentioned, maybe change your fork oil, and yeah, your weight could be a significant factor.

If you haven't checked. Check at a dealer to see if your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) has been replaced. There was a recall on the 05's

There is 6500 miles on the bike. I will check with my mechanic and see if I need to change the oil. Just bought the bike on Tuesday, upgrade from my Yamaha 650 V star needed more speed.

You should get new springs for your forks from Racetech. Hit the search tab and look up the different threads.

You can custom order your springs based on your weight, plus you can replace the exhisting stock fork oil with heavier weight oil.

I'm really not too handy with the wrench so I just had a shop install if for me.

I recently changed my fork oil to 15w which made a big difference - could also have been partly due to the old oil I took out looking like grey watery goo...
I've never taken forks out before and it only took me about an hour all in (on FZ6N) well worth doing I think

You should always include your weight when asking about suspension mods. Makes a big difference. Stock setup is for riders in the 140-160 range it seems. Guys over 200 lbs really need stiffer springs.

My stock forks seem fine to me, though they are low mileage, despite me being a big guy. What the others say about fork oil may solve your problems. Changing the fork oil is like a rebuild - it makes all the difference in the world. I used to ride dirt a lot. My old Suzuki was a test dummy. I experiemented with all types of oil weights, and volumes. You can't fudge much on the volume but the weight of the oil is everything! Good luck.
