Getting something "great" feels more like a punishment

Well, i just found out that I am getting a couple things out of this deployment that is pretty cool. Two medals for my Class A uniform, and the chance to go to a school to get me very close to my promotion to Sergeant.

It feels like a punishment.

I will be leaving Iraq 2 weeks earlier than the rest of the unit, just to sit in Fort McCoy Wisconsin for 2-3 weeks waiting for my class to start. I wont be able to go home.....

I Will be getting back to Washington about 2-3 weeks after the rest of the unit.

3 more weeks of not being able to see my family.....
The ENTIRE riding season basically gone........
and I will miss the 'welcome home' ceremonies because i wont be coming back with the rest of the unit......

This 'privilege' seams to suck to me.....

I see your point, but try to look at the bright side.

1. You get to leave that god forsaken place early to ensure you will get to see your family again.

2. The bump in rank should bring a bump in pay.

Is military something you plan on making a lifetime career? (ie: lifer?) If yes than this is a good thing. You will get to see other homecoming ceremonies later in your career (maybe as Sergeant Major! someday) Anything you can do to advance yourself has to be looked at as a sacrifice that will payoff in the future. I mean who doesn't want to make more money? And do less "grunt" work? sounds like a win-win to me! :thumbup:

Hey Jazz, perhaps think about it like this: if you were given the option to take a pass on the school, would you? If not, then it's not punishment, it's just life and sometimes life just sorta gets in the way.

Like madman said, you'll get other chances to party. Stay safe, get your butt out of that place. You'll see the folks who matter soon enough and it'll be that much sweeter!
