Gear foot lever too high

Hi all,

This is my first post on here as I recently bought a 2006 FZ6 as my first bike.
Had it for 3 weeks now, and slowly noticing little things that bug me.
The gear foot lever seems to me, is a little too high, as when in change down the gears i almost have to take my foot of the peg completely, before the lever can go all the way up so i can change another gear down.
Is there a fix for that?
Also the bitting point on the clutch is really far out.
Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

The position of the gear shift can easily be adjusted. You will notice on either end of the shift linkage there are two turnbuckles, each with its own lock nut. Simply loosen the lock nuts (one is reverse thread) and turn the rod until you reach shift-point nirvana. Retighten the lock nuts and you are good to go.

Regarding the clutch, make sure your free play is in-spec. Also, adjustable levers can change the feel of the clutch engagement. But in reality, you will quickly develop muscle memory and adapt the the bikes inherent engagement point. Give it few weeks before spending money on levers.

A couple of other points:

1) If you lower the gear lever too much, it can catch against the mounting bolts for the side stand, so check it will move freely.

2) If you find the clutch too heavy, you can replace the actuator arm on top of the clutch housing (by your right knee) with one from the MT-07 which gives a much lighter pull and a longer friction zone.

Keeping the clutch cable lubed (I use 30 weight inserted into the cable with a syringe)
helps GREATLY.

From 2023:
Did you install the longer Yamaha "clutch lever" , attached to the engine, (which the lower part of your clutch cable attaches to?)

I installed one, probably made it 25% less pull and more of an engagement zone...

Yamaha part # 1WS-16340-00.

Just a side note, I removed it and went back to stock. While it is easier to pull
it does extend the engagement zone-Which I didn't care for...

one of our members recommended to me that the gear lever and the lever on the gearbox (separated by the turnbuckle ended rod) should both be at an equal angle. This ensures that the rear of the foot lever clears the footpeg plate, shifting both up and down. hope this helps a bit
