I hate to post this because I'm sure it's been asked before, but I can't find it on google or the search feature.

I took my gas cap off my tank because I want to paint it, but I can't get my key out of the lock now. When I put it back on the tank it comes off fine (when I lock it) but then I can't pull it off...

I'm sure there is a trick to this I'm not aware of. Can anyone help me with this irritating little problem?

Thanks!

It's actually a fair puzzle. You have to simulate the cap in the "down" or locked position before the key will release. Press the black rubber seal up or against it's spring and simultaneously push in on the latch. This should allow the key to return to lock position and be removed.

Enjoy!

ahhhhh, i didn't even notice that that piece HAD a spring. I was focusing on the locking mechanism trying to figure out how it could possibly know it was on a gas tank haha

I feel like a real bright guy right about now

Thanks!
