FZ6 rider on Telegraph Rd in Woodbridge VA

While house hunting today I came across a rider on a grey FZ6. Was this anyone on the forum? It was around 5:30 pm.

So, how is riding around this area? How far do you commute and how bad is it?

If you're up in this area but it wasn't you, it would still be nice to hear your riding experiences around the VA/DC/MD area.

I use my bike to commute as long as it is not raining. Springfield, VA into Downtown. I love it because I get to ride on HOV on I-395 and skip over all the traffic into DC. Where are you looking to move and where will you be commuting to?

i live in richmond i am in the woodbridge area sometimes its not bad for riding at all its actually pretty nice. pm me sometime and we can go riding!

Welcome to woodbridge! Depending on where you live it is a completely different experience, good and bad areas.

Where in Arlington? Depending on your start/end points of your commute, you may end up with different commuting routes. If you end up near I-95/I-395 area, bike commuting will allow you to use the HOV lanes which will help with your commute at least inside the beltway (when I-395 starts). That is when I get on the I-395 for my commute into DC so I don't know much about the traffic patterns before that point.

DC area traffic is one of the worst in the country so you will quickly learn to maximize your route for best possible time right down to which lane you need to be in. I-395 HOV traffic moves very fast except for couple of choke points which you can get through quickly if you know where to position yourself as you are approaching them.

I know some people going to hate me saying this, but, if you don't really have your heart set on living in Woodbridge (i.e. already rented or bought someplace) and you have kids, you might want to look into someplace in Fairfax County. It has the one of the best school systems in the country and around where I live have one of the best public schools in the country. People mistakenly think that Fairfax County is very expensive the live, but these days there are a lot of deals to be had.

I agree on FFX County, nice place to be. Just dont come in MD and think living in PG County (I live) will be good. We have the worst school system in the US (World probably lol).

Thanks to all the great info, I really do appreciate it. I found a place in Woodbridge, really close to the Fairfax/PW county line. I'm liking the area so far (house wise). I already know the traffic will be horrible.

So I find a house for a decent price (renting) and I call the moving company to get a delivery date, check this out 30 July 09. I'm in the military and they give you 10 days that they will reimburse you for (within reason) when staying at a hotel. That ends on the 19th and after that they say all money to live eat etc is all on me. You got to love that.

Looking forward to riding meeting up and riding with some of you in the near future.
