I love my FZ6 and I don't want to ever part with it. Nor do I want to part with my XT225. I guess the reality of it is that I really appreciate bikes. I mean to say, I want ride, buy and own-forever every bike I see... That includes scooters, cruisers, sporties, police bikes (that's another story... I love P models), Enduros, pure dirt machines.. whatever. I do draw the line at Goldwings and trikes (sorry.)

Anyway, back to the point. The FJR13 truly intrigues me. I believe this will be the next horse in my stable. I'm talking a few years away of course. It looks like like THE machine for sport touring. I dig the Concourse, but the FJR looks leaner, and more capable. The specs seem to support this theory, but I need to do more research.


Has anybody here ridden one? Own one? Thoughts?

While I'm drunkenly rambling I may as well mention that while I'm a hard core Deadhead, bluegrass junky, jazz lover, and blues addict I still think that Blue Monday by New Order may be one of the greatest songs ever recorded. Odd... I shun 80's pop like it's reality tv yet I can't help but love this song. Quite an arrangement.
 
ive been eyeing it myself it myself for a future ride (2 yrs or so)

i want to get into some serious sport touring when i graduate and i want a big comfy bike that has a sports-bred background and characteristics.

ive narrowed it down to every big sports touring bike ever made, lol, so my research is still preliminary. the concourse and fjr1300 are nice and big and comfortable, yet the seating position is extremely sporty for their size and purpose. brilliant bikes. i havent gotten deep enough to find differences yet so look forward to replies to this thread.

the triumph st3 is a nice in between kind of ride. its an inline triple so is nice and torquey compared to the others even tho its a slightly smaller bike than the 1300s at like 1050 or so. might be funner to ride with its torquiness but i dont know personally.

the ducati st3 is a ducati and an L-twin so that combined with the fact that its a ducati (perhaps other design elements gear it more for sportiness) might make it the sportiest/funnest of the bunch. havent sat on one yet tho but its a 1000cc so will be a little smaller as well. but that also means it weighs less. so its prob the funnest of em all, but also the most expensive.

other than that, i think for sheer distance the fjr and concourse have it down. i wouldnt want to tempt myself with something really sporty and the concourse/fjr with the added bulk might do well to slow me down and make me enjoy the ride and scenery rather than JUST the curves.

remains to be seen whats on the market in 2-3 years they may make something new and amazing.
 
I have never ridden one but will soon. My dad owns one and he keeps on offering me a ride but I know how much he loves it and would hate to drop it on him. It is an awesome bike, it absolutely canes in a straight line. It wears the back tyre down the centre simply due to the fact it spins so much in a straight line. It's also a wheelie machine. 3rd gear and just flick the wrist and she is up. I'd have to say it's not sport orientated in it's ergo's though otherwise my dad couldn't stand it as he has carpal tunnel and a bad back.

Ride an 1800 Wing and then come tell be about that line. This is the only bike on the market the FAA requires a pilots license for..... The bike is second to none in terms of comfort and touring. Here's a look at an 1800 Wing with a rider that clearly knows the machine. Careful, you may get dizzy watching this one.

I just sold mine... it's not fast in terms of top speed... Tops out about the same as an Fz6... It also weighs about 200lbs more than an FZ6. What it does have is power.... Roll open the throttle in any gear at practically any rpm and you will be rewarded with instant thrust. It makes about 145hp and 99 ft/lbs of torque. Although it handles quite well considering it's size... it is a boat compared to an FZ6... I found it nice, but overkill. I sold it and bought a Bandit 1250... Lighter and feels almost as torquey... The Bandit is kinda' in between the FJR and FZ6 in terms of weight & power (although rated at the same hp as the FZ6 the Bandit is one fast motorcycle, and a great handler with fully adjustable suspension...)

That was a crazy video!!

My friend owns a 2004 FJR and loves it. It is a very capable bike and does everything you ask it to. The only downfall is fuel mileage, kinda sucks. On the last 250 mile trip we took I averaged 52 mpg on my FZ6, my brother in law got 47 with his 2006 Vulcan 2000 and the FJR only got 40 mpg. Commuting in town it only gets 32, he said since WI put in a 10% Ethanol mandate, he never gets above 42 mpg, which used to be easy. On non ethanol he said 50 mpg is tops, not to shabby for a 130+ hp bike.

Wow, the ST3 is sexy. The upfront layout and the cost to own is bit steep though.

The Bandit is a great bike, but I wonder about comfort after 8 hours in the saddle. Canadian, what's the longest stretch you've done so far?

While we're at it we should discuss the merits of Bimmer's F800ST. It weighs almost exactly what the FZ6 does. Less HP (85). Kind of ugly if you ask me. Of course, I think most BMW bikes are sorta ugly, yet I still love them. Now, the question becomes "what makes it $3 - 4000 (USD) better than the FZ6 for light sport touring? Apples and oranges, I guess....

I would love to get a f800st. Excellent suspension, wayyy better than the FZ6, and belt final drive too with a single sided swingarm (simple wheel removal):thumbup:. Very snappy motor, lots of torque and very usable powerband. Is it really worth 4K more? Doubt it, I would have one if they sold for sane prices, like say 8-9k. But for 10,500 with no luggage, I will pass, for now.

As you may already know, I think that it is a vid of "Yellow Wolf" the famed and apparently now retired "Dragon Slayer" he was rumored to have several thousand dollars of suspension upgrades to that wing, however it in no way deminishes the man's insane skill!!

That train of thought is how I ended up with my Fazer in the first place (in a round about way.)

Last year I had my heart set on the BMW F650GS (think street savvy dual sport - pic below.) The local dealer let me ride one. It really was a great bike. I say "was" because it's been replaced by the F800GS. Anyway, I was about to drop $10K USD on a 650CC dual sport when it finaly struck me that I could get an equally capable machine for $3k less..... The V-Strom 650 or "Wee-Strom." I went to test ride one with the intention of buying it that very day. They sold the Strom that morning so instead of leaving without riding anything I decided to ride the FZ6 which I had researched plenty, but decided against because I wanted something that could handle the trail. I doubt that I was a 1/4 mile into my test ride til I was sold!!

Yup, that it is but keep in mind, even the stock 1800 Wing is impressive. Additionally, the 1800 wing has near 120hp and roughly 122 ftlbs of torque. The new models will run a very respectable low 12 quarter mile. This is not a rolling (Harley) roadblock. That wing will run right out of the crate.

I learn something new every day. It's still not in my gotta-have-it list, but I deffinately have more respect for the Wing. Thanks!

Every bike has its place and its rider. :thumbup:
