Easy Rider
Well, I got up today, got ready for work, went outside to get in the car and thought "its not too cold today, and look - the street is dry!" so what the hell, I pulled the bike out, started it and let 'er warm up, went back inside, put the gear on, waved to my perplexed wife, and took off.
I hadn't ridden the FZ6 before having just got it last week and spending a few days ptting some things back together and adjusting it. I'd ridden it up the driveway a few times to get used to the clutch, but that's about it. Next thing I know I'm rippin' down the street with a big, crazy smile on my face! The bike felt really good, very responsive, easy to ride, and smooth in the turns. It only took a few shifts to get a better feel for the gears, but otherwise my previous riding experience kicked right back in and I was back in the saddle.
I didn't push it up past 6k rpm, mostly because of traffic, and becasue I didn't want to get into trouble on the first ride. I just took it easy and rode it cruiser-style. I'm glad I took the time to sit on a bunch of bikes over the winter and find a good fit, and make a few setup adjustments before going out. It was very confortable, all the controls right where I would expect them to be, and good sitting position.
The nice thing with the FZ6 is the heads-up positioning, something I am used to and appreciative of from my previous ride. Good visibility, no neck or shoulder strain, good balance. There was a fair bit of wind buffetting around 90-100 km/h, which made me consider looking into taller windscreens, but it may have been the cool weather that made it noticable.
The stock mufflers sound like a mosquito swarm! I'll certainly be putting the TBR exhaust I have back on once I get the parts I need. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade. I have frame sliders on order (hope I never need them), and will likely put on a tank pad as my tank bag doesn't cover the very back on the tank by the seat. Otherwise - IT"S A GEM!!!
