first drop, and it wasnt even my fault

I'm pretty damn pissed off. I went for a ride earlier, 2-3 hours worth. Beautiful ride, alittle warm, but amazing to get a nice long one in.

I stopped to get lunch halfway through. Park my brand new (less than 200 miles still) fz6 outside of this deli. As I'm eating, looking out the window, I see a truck backing up, right to my bike. The guy must not have seen it, next I know he's tipped her over, and is speeding off like crazy. I run out to check the damage, which are thankfully minor, but I'm pretty angry right now. The right turn signal's brackets snapped off the inner side of the fairing, so i've got it duct-taped (for now) so that it doesn't hang freely.

other than that, there's a few little scratches on the mirror, and the side of the front fairing. Nothing too severe. Just can't believe the bike went down already...and entirely out of my control too. I figured parking right out front, was the safest option.

On the plus side, I had been planning on swapping it out. Really fond of the fz1n headlight, and ordered one.

Still, I want to slit the tires of the idiot who doesn't look when he's backing up, and the peels out to avoid the consequence of his actions.

That's a feaking bummer. That was a hit and run. Too bad you couldn't get that plate number. I'm always very cautious parking out on the srreet. Even though it may be illegal, If there is ample room, I will park on the sidewalk or in other areas thats not on the street, including in between the handicapped zones so that doesn't happen.

it was a parking lot, with extra wide spacing. there was a free spot on either side of me (actually two) when I parked, so I figured it was alright, but i guess people don't understand how to turn their head, to look where they're going. On one end, I'm at least happy that the only thing was the turn signal bracket...thankfully he didn't keep backing after the tipover, or else I might have a destroyed bike.

I rather park in places where the cages can't park but sometimes you just don't have a choice.

If so, was there no plate on the cage that got away? If there was, you turned it in right? You did get it right?

I'm with you, HavBlue. I mean, if someone dumps my bike and then runs, I'm going to try to get plate, a visual i.d. of perpetrator. I would also maybe (probably after tailing hit/run driver) see if I could get any witness statement from deli patrons/employees. Since it's a private lot, I don't know if it's a crimminal offense (it probably is?) but, STILL, I am going to file in small claims court (maybe the ruthless "Judge Judy" or "Judge Joe Brown"). I doubt that local police would respond to a 911 call over this so I'm thinking civil action. Maybe it's not too late to take action. He should inquire at the deli if the dumb shi_ was a regular and if there's anybody who knows him?

I was gona say we all say that, then I read your story. It really gets my goat when some as5 wipe can do that and not bother stopping.
Is there any CCTV out front?

I had this happen at work a week ago. Came out to go to lunch and my bike is laying on it's right side.:rant: It broke the inside lower turn turn signal mount too. I was surprised that it is not designed better, pretty weak mount. Luckily I had no other damage done, just a small scratch on the bar end. I used a plastic weld (epoxy) and fixed the mount. Much cheaper than buying a new fairing.:rockon:

Mate a 400lb bike will bend steel bolt mounted frame sliders when dropped.
Plastic don't stand a chance. I am glad the damage was so light.

I popped an indicator too & repaired it with a gap filling cynao-acrylate adhesive. But that was because it was too damn expensive to replace the fairing moulding.

The design fault is not that it is weak, but that it is an integeral part of the fairing. If the bike goes down, inevitably the indicator is first point of contact & is punched out of the mounting. The indicator should be mounted such that it seperates from rather than breaks the fairing.

Of course, this assumes a low speed impact. If you're going to toss the bike down the road at speed it's academic, cos' then it's likely a new fairing is the least of your worries. :noworries:

I should clarify, I was just surprised that the mount was integrated into the fairing. If the turn signal was a half an inch shorter, it would not touch the pavement when tipped over. A crash when moving has the possibility of doing more damage, so fairing damage is more likely. A helmet falling off of the handle bars is gong to break the mount on the fairing. I'm not saying that you can prevent all damage, I just think items like turn signals always seem to be gluttons for punishment, make the mounts replaceable.
