Save your money, and your life! For a first bike, pick up something old, for no more than $ 2000, then, learn to ride on it. I went from a z50 (as a kid) to a SuzukiSP125 (enduro), then, didn't ride for years, then, got a VSTAR650 (good first bike), and finally, just got my FZ6, which seams like a rocket compared to the VSTAR. The only regret I have is that I paid too much for the VSTAR and sold it for too little. If you can find something certified, around 400-650 cc, even as old as 20 years, buy it and beat it up for a summer or two, then jump on a newer, faster bike. You won't regret it and you'll probably be able to sell the old beater for what you paid for it!
