Faulty IACV

Hello guys, struggling with idle issues. Right now I have the coolant part of the sync block off, the part with the two hose fittings for coolant and ran some carb cleaner through it. However there is a brass piece that seems to be pressed inside that seems a little bit corroded. Is this piece supposed to actuate in and out? I've tried hitting it with a heat gun wondering if it actuates like a thermostat? Any advice appreciated.

I cleaned mine dipped in ultrasonic cleaner

Hello did this ever fix the problem ?

Hello did this ever fix the problem ?
My problem ended up being the replacement of both ignition coils and associated leads. Seems like a pretty common problem with the bikes at this point. Calvin MC on Youtube and multiple others on various facebook groups have had coils going bad despite them bench testing in spec, not sure why. In any case, problem is fixed for now. Check out my post if you wanna see what my symptoms were and compare. Coils and leads were $100 ebay which was doable for me so I just said F it and gave it a try. Don’t usually like throwing parts at the problem, but I was kinda over it. Good luck.

Thanks would yours idle fine at cold but the warmer it gets the worse the rpm drops? I just bought a pack myself. 140 something ouch ! but if doesn’t solve the problem i’ll just return it.

Yea pretty much, as the bike would warm up and would start to idle down to the normal idle range around 1300 rpm it would start bouncing around dropping down to 900rpm sometimes. Problem seemed to get worse over time, and there was a few times when riding in hot weather during the summer where it would die if it had been idling for a while or while sitting at a light.

A failing coil will certainly cause idle problems. They can be hard to diagnose because at room temperature (like when bench testing) they will test fine, but fail when they get hot.

If your rpm’s are hesitant at high rpm, it’s a good sign that it’s the coils. If they fail at idle, you should also have a hard time making power under load.

Hmm, there’s no hesitation at higher rpm’s but the bike does hesitate to throttle up when it’s below 2k. Maybe i’m just throwing parts at the problem? I’ll probably end up returning it if it’s not the coils. It was left out in the rain for a while so who knows. I’m hesitant to remove the iacv because two screws holding on are really tight and i can’t get them to loosen. I’ll probably need an impact wrench. It could also be my tps though there was no recall on this bike. But when the throttle is closed it jumps between 15-16. not sure if this is normal or what

A reading between 15-16 is in the normal range. The wiper is just between windings. When you check the TPS you should open the throttle and let it “snap” back to closed throttle - and then take the reading.

In doing that too sometimes it jumps to 15 and than to 16 each time is different when opening and closing
