Drilled exhaust, will I need PCIII if I put K&N filter?

Well, I did browse and read a few threads here on the subject, but now I'm asking the question directly:

I've drilled the stock exhaust (7/8 holes), and I like the results. Now it's time to change the air filter, and I'm wondering whether to get the OEM filter or put a K&N filter to make the bike louder. Wondering if anybody has done that, and would I need Power Commander, or the difference won't be noticeable without it.

The air filter will not change the sound at all and you probably will not notice any gains either the stock filter dose just fine. If sound is what you are going for then you can do the airbox mod and it will add a little more of a throaty sound. If you have your heart set on getting a k&n you still would not have to have a pcIII unless you just wanted too. But without a actuall slip on a pcIII would prolly just be a waste of money

I did that same thing you did, started with drilled exhaust - then got a K&N filter
I would recommend the K&N, simply because its not that expensive, and it is a good quality filter.
As far as sound, it makes a very very small difference.
Doing the air box mod - cut open the hole - makes a decent difference
I have drilled exhaust, not cat, air box mod for 2 years, no Power Commander and it runs just fine!

That's it, i'm placing an order on a K&N filter now!

But after that it will be so tempting to do the airbox mod too And then a K&N filter + drilled exhaust + airbox mod => I think it will run too lean without a Power Commander..hmm

Thats the beauty of efi you still wouldnt have to have one unless u just wanted one and if you are worried about running lean you could adjust the co values
