It'll take me a while to chug through the article; at first blush it corroborates the Cycle World article a few years ago, which suggested the ECE standard is superior to just about anything else out there. And that the older Snell standard allows too much gee force to the noggin.

That article also pointed out that the US DOT standard was similar in the allowed gee to the ECE standard. The ECE goes a few steps better in a wider range of head form sizes and weights, to force more tailoring of the energy absorbing materials to more accurately protect the realistic range of human brain sizes.
