Do you keep a mental note of what gear you're in??

Do you remember which gear you're in at all times?

I don't see a point in remembering what gear you're in.. You don't drive by the gear number. You drive by the RPM and where you need to be in the powerband for that moment.

same here, who cares what gear you are in. once you ride enough you get a feel for what gear you NEED to be in by the sound of the bike, the rpms, the road, etc. i always thought a gear indicator was sort of a novelty that is not needed.

I'm using universal gear indicator from ebay. It reads engine revs and speed from ecu.

Sadly I do go for that 7th gear reasonably often. Main reason being that while I'm on normal inner city roads where the speed limit is 50km/h, I'm in 4th and sitting at about 3k rpm. Then when I hit the 80 - 100 zones I'm in 6th doing 6500 rpm which makes it feel like there's another gear.
I know my dad doesn't have this problem on the TL haha, just a problem with the smaller engines there though.
