Dental Misery

Well, since I haven't had straight teeth in 30 years - I decided that it was time. So the dentist tells me that they have to pull the teeth out behind my eye teeth to make room. The day finally came at the end of the week last week. They said, "now you'll feel a little pressure and pushing." OMG!!!! Turned out those teeth had three roots and one broke off in the left side. They had to trench it out. The creepiest part of the whole thing was the final cracking sound and then watching a hand going away with a perfectly good tooth.:surrender:
So, this morning I removed the stitches before going to the orthodontist guy so that they could install the invisalign stuff. When I snapped in the trays, it immediately felt weird. But unsnapping it feels like I'm gonna pull out my teeth. Seems like I have to pull really hard to get them off (and I am not a weak man)! Anyone else have invisalign and have a similar experience? Gums are pi$$ed at me right now....broke down and got the ora-gel stuff.:drool:

It's been 25 years since I had braces - it used to really hurt when they'd tighten them.

You're gonna have to harden up and take it like a man!.... :justkidding:

I do sympathise with you, but until they settle, I don't think there is much you can do. It shouldn't hurt after a while, but if you are in doubt, ring your orthodentist - sometimes they can make mistakes.

I went through plenty of it. It's just going to be paid for some time. Your mouth will hate you and you'll eventually get used to the pain. Then, when it's all done, it will feel weird to not be in pain. Good luck! Oh and those plastic invisalign things are hard to get off most of the time.

Man, I feel your pain! I had braces when I was younger (Kazza and I must be close in age) and I remember how bad my teeth and gums would hurt after having them tightened.

But that pain was NOTHING compared to the pain I felt a couple years ago. Of course it started early on a Friday evening (when the dentist would be out all weekend, so I'd have to wait until Monday). A tooth on the upper left side decided it just wanted to go BONKERS! I've never felt pain like that and I hope I never do again. Sharp pain for 10 minutes, followed by a dull ache for 20 minutes and just as the dull ache felt like it was about to subside and give me some relief, BOOM, the sharp pain would come shooting back. 2 1/2 days of that completely wore me out. I couldn't sleep...couldn't eat...nothing. Oragel worked for a little while, but not long enough.

Turned out I had a filling that had fallen out (I couldn't feel it or see it) and the nerve had been exposed. That led to my first and only root canal (which wasn't as bad as I expected, but that's probably because it stopped the darn pain) and my only crown.

I've always tried to take really good care of my teeth, but some of us were just born with better teeth than others. Unfortunately, although mine are nice and straight, they're overly sensitive to letting cavities take hold. I've always said there's no worse pain than dental pain!

Sorry you're having trouble, but it WILL get better, I promise. Once your gums get used to all the moving around, they'll adjust.

Jeez...this just reminded me that I've still got my wisdom teeth. Ugh. I dread the day those things have to come out!!!

Ouch! Haven't had invisalign, but I had the whole shebang 20 years ago - braces, all four first premolars pulled, headgear, etc. The pain was bad at times, but only for a couple of days to a week after an ortho visit, then it would subside. It was worth it, I had great looking teeth - until I stopped wearing my retainer and my wisdom teeth grew in.

Since then my teeth have gotten bad again and I'm in the process of having braces put on again - I get them on Apr 8th so we'll be in the same boat. It's only pain, right?

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out at the same time - under the gum line too. I had stitches where the teeth came out - and they stitched my cheeks - don't know why they were cut! I was in agony for a week. Ice cream and mashed potato was my food of choice. Not a happy time

Mmmmmmm, ice cream and mashed potatoes. That is pretty much all the food groups, right? That is terrible that they cut/stitched your cheeks! Hope it wasn't an oops.

This story is an excellent case for legalizing cocaine. We need to go back to old days when a dentist could admiinister cocaine. It's about the only way to get patients to come back for a return visit. There just isn't any comparison with dental pain.
