Dash wiring

Your welcome YouTube - Yamaha FZ6N Fazer / FZ6 S2 50 seconds might interest you

Sure does show it crossing over, I didn't see the electrical wires crossing over thou, perhaps I missed that. If that's how it came from the factory you are correct and I stand corrected.

In either case, the bike is based on faired(SP?) bike is it not?

If the clutch cable does not have a bend where it goes into the lever perch (like the faired version), I'd be purchasing a new clutch cable (from the faired version) and re-route the cable to the left side of the switch exactly as my faired version does. It would require lifting the tank but nothing that couldn't be fixed... Where/how it attaches to the engine should be the same

The wiring on the OP is wiring for something else added by the owner I believe, as standard it is just the clutch cable crossing the ignition.

The clutch cable runs down the right side of the bike to the clutch on the right of the engine if I remember right. Don't know if the earlier bikes are different, maybe it was done like this on later bikes to make the clutch lighter and smoother.

Below are pic's of the clutch cable coming out of the uper perch and curving downwards, the other picture is where it attaches to the engine... (ignore the extra line next to the clutch cable, its for the GPS-curves around when not in use).

If the engine mounting set up is the same, I would think a new cable, re-routed would solve the problem...

im new to yamahas and the fz's in particular, so i dont know what the s2n is. whatever it is, it is obviously in the most minority of bikes that have something purposefully covering the ignition.

i never claimed ive seen ALL bikes ever made, just that ive had a good exposure to most makes since 1974 and havent run across one yet with that configuration.

if i had a bike that did come like that, i would promptly change it. its a dumb design.

It may be a dumb design, but it really doesn't detract from the enjoyment of riding the bike.

An S2N is a naked S2 FZ6, sold in Europe and Australia.

The original poster was asking about the cable interfering with the ignition switch. I got the impression it does bother him as he wanted to correct it if possible..

Most reply posts are trying to help the guy, myself included...

The bike not being available in the states doesn't help folks trying to assist from across the pond, especially if they've never seen one in person (I have not).

If it was my bike, I would be doing something with it, wether it be simply re-routing it or a new cable (from the fared version). If it doesn't bother the owner/rider all is good!

I really did not expect this much interest I would like to re-route the clutch cable which I will look into this over the Christmas holiday.

Many thanks to all

Does your FZ6N dash wiring look like this?

The reason I am asking is the wiring gets in the way of the ignition.

I have mentioned this before in other posts but I will say it again: Bikepics.com is an excellent place to research how items should look on pretty much any make and model of bike that you can imagine. I often use it to find out where parts belong, how cables are routed, and where bolts belong if I forget. A few minute search and you can usually find what you need.

Check it out: BikePics - 2008 Yamaha FZ6N

I think that is what you were looking for.

The OP talked about wiring getting in the way of the ignition switch, not the clutch cable.

The wiring and clutch cable are tied together in his picture. Appparently the clutch cable (considerably stiffer) is put there from the factory that way. The clutch cable will be harder to get around the than the wiring, no?

The cables should be able to be moved and re-routed....

its very cool! how come the us doesnt get all these cool versions of common bikes?!

op, either re-route the cable you have, or if it wont bend enough, get a cable from a faired (u.s.) version that has a metal curved shaft that points the cable down and to the left of the ignition.

maybe a noob issue, but that clutch cable can still be a danger:

On the way home just now, noticed my indicaters weren't working, and something seemed wrong with the display. Headlight and highbeams were working. Reluctantly, I pulled over to check the rear indicators and brake lights. rear indicators were gone, hazards did nothing, and the rear brake light came on with the brakes, but nothing at all from it without applying the brakes.
scary; having driven quite a distance without noticing. in the dark, and rain, to realise the tail light was completely dark.

As I was examining the display, I noticed the key wasn't completely rotated to the 'on position', so I twisted clockwise, and suddenly the hazard lights, highbeam indicator etc came on all at once. The key had been caught by the clutch cable, which must have pushed it a bit away from the on position.

This is not the first time the clutch cable has done such a thing. Doing a slow speed left turn the other day the engine just shut off suddenly - for the same reason; I discovered the clutch cable had grabbed the keys. It has also happened one other time, but I can't remember when that was....

The keys are not that bulky - I have 2 small keys, and I use very thin rope\cord instead of a standard keyring, which I wove together when I got the bike because of the tight space around the ignition.

So I think I'd better reroute that clutch cable.
Could driving with the ignition not properly switched on damage any components?

Thanks for all the input. Over my Christmas holiday I re-routed the clutch cable & the heated grip cable all works fine & it is nice to have that bloody clutch cable out of the way. :D

dblaze; this tiny design flaw that I hardly even noticed when I test rode my new '09 FZ6 S2 ABS is quickly becoming an annoyance. Care to elaborate on how you solved it (i.e. rerouted it yourself, using existing/new parts, etc) to help a fellow ignition-interference sufferer out?

Cheers,
Martin
