Crashed this morning

No news on the orthodontist.

The adjuster came out this morning and said that the bike will probably be totalled. The bike is worth $5100, and he has $3900 to "play with" to fix everything on the bike. He doesn't think that can happen. With all of the plastics destroyed and the small scratches to the engine casing he doesn't think it's going to be repairable for that much money. Here are the pictures I promised last week.

The first one is the damage to his hatchback. That's where my knee made a dent in his trunk :rolleyes: The rest are the damage to my bike :(

In regards to crash sounds horrible to read about it, let alone live it through. Another proof that idiots shouldn't be driving cars.

In regards to damage is "totaled" good news or bad news? You are obviously getting new FZ6, right

Just heard back from the adjuster. I guess it's not totalled... he came up with $3300 of damage and the bike is totalled at $3900.

It probably would have been a good thing for the bike to be totalled. I was planning on selling it in the next week or 2 anyways since I have to move back to the Midwest for work. Having it in the shop for a few weeks might present a problem with me trying to sell it... plus it's "been crashed" and people are less likely to want to purchase it. Oh well... we'll see what happens.
 
I'll be moving back in the middle of winter, so I'd have to pay shipping + storage, and I don't think I could go from riding in SoCal where some of the best rides in the country are 15 minutes away back to Chicago where you travel an hour through traffic to get to 1 road that has 3 turns... then head back to the city to fight traffic again.

Plus the girlfriend is not to keen on the bike and my safety, especially after this little incident.
 
So what do you guys think of this idea. The insurance will cut me a check for the damage amount, and I could sell the bike as-is with the damage. Do you think someone would be interested in buying the bike? It is pretty much *perfect* for a naked conversion, as most of the damage is on the front-end plastics. Do you think something like $1500 would be a fair price?

Or should I get it repaired and throw it on the forums and Craigslist for full asking price? This would take a few weeks to get the repairs done, and I could run out of time to sell it before I leave for the Midwest.

I think doing a naked conversion would be cheaper than replacing all the plastics. So do the conversion, pocket the left over money, and sell it as a naked bike.
 
BTW, if all the damage is just what is in the pictures, I think you could easily fix this for way less than $3300 if you do some smart online shopping and even get some used parts.:thumbup:

If the bike is in riding condition and all damage is cosmetic, I'd buy it off of you for $1500. Hell, I could then fix it up and sell if for a profit.:Flip::eek:

I'll have the adjusters sheet to show all of the damage soon. It looks like ~$1000 of it will be for the TCP lower fairings, Puig windscreen and the frame sliders. So $2200 of actual damage to the bike.

I'll let you guys know if I decide to sell it as-is. I'll post here as well as in the classifieds.

Keep us posted Steve. We're sad to see you go, but understand that this was the plan the whole time. Too bad you didn't make it out more often for the group rides, we missed you last time.
 
An update for you guys... My lower back and left knee are still sore, but I got Xrays yesterday and will hear about them tomorrow. I got a refill on the Vicodin and muscle relaxers, so I am feeling a-okay today!

The drivers insurance (AAA) has taken full responsibility for the accident, which I found out this morning after meeting with their bodily injury adjuster. From that meeting, they are going to pay for my repairs ($3300), medical stuff (pain and suffering, loss of wages, any hospital bills and co-payments), my gear and possibly my sales tax when I bought the bike. I should find out more details regarding all that later this week. I'm not sure how much the medical stuff is going to be, but everything has gone very smooth with AAA.

I've definitely decided to sell the bike as-is. I'm going to wait until everything goes through insurance before it goes, but that should be within the next week or 2. I don't know if my original number of $1500 is going to be the price, but rsw81 and Cali rider are first in line when I do figure that out. I'll post in here and in the Classifieds.

My overall experience with this whole situation has been surprisingly good, considering the circumstances. Dealing with insurance has been easy, but time-consuming. My insurance (Pacific Specialty) and the other drivers (AAA) have been easy to contact and I've had no negative experience with them at all. Obviously it is not fun to be in pain or without my bike, but I'm coping with the loss and am doing well so far.
 
glad you're feeling better...good luck with the rest! glad also to hear that Pacific Specialty is good to deal with since I have them as well.

Did you have full insurance with them? If yes, what was your yearly due? Thanks :)
 
Hey Steve, glad to hear you are doing alright and that the insurance companies are doing what we pay them to do (not always the case). Let me and Cali rider know when you figure out what you'd like to do with the bike. I think he and I are going to put it back together as a project together. Perhaps a one-of-a-kind FZ6 in the works for your viewing pleasure.;)

Stumbles06 - Another bike is most definitely on the wishlist! I just need to convince the girlfriend that it will be okay, and need to work out timing with my life out here and back in Chicago.

MarinaFazer - Yes I had full coverage. I think I was paying about $750/year. If you want more details (coverage, etc.) then I can dig them up.

rsw81 - I'll try and cut you guys a deal as long as you'll promise me a ride on the thing!
