Just bought a brand new, leftover 2008 FZ6 this past Saturday. I have been wanting one since 2005, and things never lined up. Finally, in January of 2008, I decided to start out on a ninja 250. After two years and about 17k miles, I finally pulled the trigger on the bike I wanted. Of course, I bought the faster blue bike.

I am a member of a couple other motorcycle sites (sportbikes.net, motorcycle-database.com). I have been lurking here this week getting info for mods and such. Figured I would go ahead and sign up and say hi.

I am most likely going to keep my bike MOSTLY stock this season. I am definitely getting frame sliders, but don't know if I will do much more than that. But I do have some future plans for mods in addition to the sliders:

Fender Eliminator
Dual Headlight
Front turn signals into empty pods by headlights
Aftermarket seat (now I understand the complaints about it being hard)
Braided SS brake lines
Speedo healer

Possibly:
aftermarket cans
Shorty levers

That is all I can think of at the moment. I likely left something out. Look forward to being a part of the community.

Why do you want to waste money on a speedohealer if you don't plan to change the gearing?

That's a pretty hot avatar -- but I'm sure we'd like to see you on the bike. We all know the blue is a great color (seems quite popular here).

I know because I have a 2008 FZ6 blue too.

I like the bike and I love mod'ing it too.

To answer your question, I have always read that the speedo is off by around 10%. I would just prefer to have it accurate. That is way down the list of mods, though. The only one I am really pondering right now is what frame and swingarm sliders. I want the Motovation, but I can get LSL for cheaper (around $100 for the full set, as opposed to 130-150 for Motovation). And to be honest, I am still researching the cheaper alternatives as well.

IIRC it's around 5% "fast" stock (which is pretty standard) and around 10% fast with -1 gearing (front sprocket).

+1 to motovation sliders...

Although expensive at about $122 shipped (plus a week or so for mail), I think the Speedohealer is a nice addition. It's nice to be able to look at your speedo and read the correct speed instead of doing calculations in your head when you're trying to concentrate.

Now that I have the Speedohealer, I don't mount up my GPS as often (the GPS was there mostly to give me accurate speed reading.
