changing fork seals, worth upgrading springs?

I think my fork seals are beginning to leak, after a heavy landing going over a small steep bridge a bit too fast...

Is it worth upgrading my fork springs in the process, and should I just use OEM seals?

Are Hagon or Racetech springs any good? Do I need to choose a particular strength or size?

Also can I get away with just using some plastic piping to put the seals on with, or do I need a proper tool?

Hi Greg - i did not too long ago... took the opponunity to upgrade too Hyperpro front/rear springs. Rear still has to be resprung [haven't hade time to take the rear shock off]. Hagon/Racetech are good products too, not much price difference really i noticed. PDQ in taplow can get em for a half decent price, and they have the knowledge to set-up em if you go all fancy

My mistake was not ordering all the OEM replacement parts. Cause once you pull em all apart, you may notice pitting in your bushes, rusty retainer clip... a slightly warped washer [i did, pics in me galery if ya interested...] No wait, i haven't uploaded em yet - lol

I have all the OEM part No. if ya interested too... I had to pull em apart twice, cause i did not order all the bits - Doh... Replacement fork seals may/may not be suffice.

I'll upload my fork revamp pics shorty to my gallery for you to get a heads up.

Ah - i missed your last line - lol

I used the old bits to seat the new bits in place... and tapped em in place until they were seated properly... May require two [four hands] tho, i had my dad hold the the fork leg while i did the tapping. The seals pretty much slid in place... i smeared marine grease all over, and they just slipped into place nicely Firm using the old seal, and a lightweight rubber mallet/hammer

cheers for the advice, do I need to buy any special tools?

would a yamaha dealer have these parts, or do i need to order them online?

If ya ask nicely, a main dealer may lend you the correct tool... Not sure, as i have never really asked myself.

Oh also, get some good quality fork oil - i used Silkolene 15wt fork oil, but there is loads to choose from to be honest.

ok i now have one of the forks out, i've managed to get it mostly apart, even the damper rod, but i'm stuck at the final hurdle. I can't get the seals out.

I've tried banging them out according to haynes but they don't want to budge.

edit: got them out in end, kept banging and they eventually started to budge
