Tightening my chain for the first time.
The manual says 45 - 55mm measured from the swing arm.
Very ambiguous. measured to what? the bottom of the chain? or
the middle of the chain?

Can anyone outline their preferred method and what lube they consider to be the best?

I am a bit of a 'chain Nazi' prefering to degrease with kero regularly and keep it oiled, say every 100 miles.

Been raining heaps since I bought my Fazer so I have been using that lube in a can that comes out white and doesn't splatter. $17 for a small tin.

put a ruler next to your chain about half way between you front and rear sprockets, and if there is more than about 60mm of slack taken up, when you push it up with your finger...it is too loose....if there is less than 30mm of slack, it's too tight...

I dont ever clean my chain.....it shortens chain life.....as x-rings, o-rings etc......go dry, which equals no lube, and it's hard to ever re-lube your chain well enough for them to fill back up again....i just clean sprockets, and practise a method of small amounts of lube very regularly....after every longish ride, or every 300 - 500km's......just my 2 cents worth.

yeah its 45-55mm of "free play", not as the picture looks in the diagram. My garage adjusted it as you said, 55mm from the bottom of the swing arm. Took it to get new tyres at a local dealer and he was shocked how tight it was. I didnt check, silly me assuming a yamaha dealer could adjust a chain properly :(
