Cabon Fiber Fender Flaw, Would you Return?

I have never purchased a carbon fiber body component and was hoping someone in the forum could tell me if small deflects are common. I just received a Carbon fiber front fender and there is a noticeable, dime sized, defect on the very front of the fender. It appears that the Carbon fiber material separated from the epoxy.

My question: is this common, and would you return it?

Note: I paid $108 + $30 Shipping.

I have e-mailed the vendor to get their feedback as well.

Good call on the price aspect; I should have included that in the original post (which has now been edited).

My knee-jerk reaction was also to try and return it; I just want to make sure I am not being super-critical.

I have seen quite a few carbon fiber pieces (mostly for my buddies Ducati). I never saw any defects like that. I would not hesitate to send it back. It's your hard earned money and you have every right to get a piece that you won't look at every time and think it's almost perfect.
 
return it and be a hardass if you have to. You're customizing your bike with an aftermarket part that is supposed to 'raise the bar' of the bikes looks. A blemish like that would drive me nuts if i had to look at it every day knowing all i had to do was exchange the part for a different one. That fender should have never left their store.
 
Do you mind my asking what company you went through? Other than the blemish it looks pretty good and the price seems decent. Might have to go that route myself.
 
Send it back... But if they get cranky about it you could just slap a Yamaha badge on it.

I don't mind at all!

I got the Part from an eBay store called MC Motoparts (MC Motoparts items - Get great deals on Aftermarkert Mirrors Set, Fuel Cap items on eBay Stores!).

They are a gold-star powerseller with 99.7% positive feedback (99.7% of 14,054 total feedback).

The quality of the rest of the part is outstanding. I will keep this thread updated with how they react/respond to the damaged part.

It's funny that you say that...I was already looking at a "Tuning Fork" sticker just in case. It is literally in the direct center of the front; be pretty easy to cover if need be.
 
Update

It is always a little scary dealing with vendors from other countries and you never really know what to expect. My advice: approach them with a positive, understanding attitude and things will almost always work in your favor.

That being said; I have a new fender on its way already!!!

MC Motorsports was very responsive (You have to give them half a day lag since they are located in Hong Kong). All in all, they seem like a top notch company willing to stand behind their quality.

I am already using them again to buy some carbon fiber heel plate covers.
 
Did you send the first one back or do you still have it?


If you do you could put it for sale on the forums.

I just put on the heel plates I bought from them.....won the bid for 20 bucks plus shipping, 30 smackers all together! Everyone else wanted 40-60 dollars. Keep checking ebay!
 
Another Update:

Less than two weeks has gone by and I have the new, pristine-condition fender in hand.

I give MC Motoparts 2-thumbs up for service and shipping!!
