Burns out: license plate light?

My brake light burned out so I carry a spare now. I don't have a license plate light anymore.


I've been thinking about putting 2 white LEDs in the bottom of my brake light to shine on the plate though.

Just replaced my original # plate bulb after 16months/29,000km so you might have a problem :thumbup:

I have no light on my FZ1 I just did a fender mod last weekend to get rid of the truck mud-flap that was on there. If its just a bulb issue I would just leave it. Now electrical start looking for pinched wires and such.

If you look at a factory bulb you will see a different design with regard to the filament. Get the designed bulb for the bike. If it's an incandescent bulb(has a filament) it won't be electrically sensitive to small changes in voltage as far as failure is concerned. In other words if you had voltage spikes that caused failure to your tail lamp I would imagine there would be many more complications with other areas of the bike. By the way LED's are at risk with regard to voltage spikes. Unless properly designed they can fail but are mechanically rugged compared to incandescent bulbs. In most cases I would prefer properly designed LED's

Get the OEM bulb and have fun out there.

Are you using those super white or coloured bulbs? Those burn out very quickly, standard light bulbs last much longer. There is also a quality difference between bulbs, I normally get mine from a dealer. The cheap ones from an auto parts store burn out quickly

i rigged my own LED plate light with my FE kit...not too worried about it burning out!

...same here, looks great and no worries. Makes a slick mod.

you might have the wrong bulb on there just cuz it fits doesnt mean its set up for that amount of amps, volts or could be a short somewhere check the bulb socket clean it all up

5 years same bulbs all the way around.
If the replacement bulbs are rated for a lower voltage than your getting to the socket they would burn out early.
