Did I make a mistake by covering my spliced blinker wires with duck tape?

Depends...was this in place of electrical tape or shrink tubing after soldering? Or in place of both soldering and shrink tubing?

Straight up soldered wire

In short, yes. Duct tape is ok in a pinch, but it's far from a long term solution.
