Big step in my life

Congratulation. :surrender: :blowkiss: :surrender:

My GF said she only wanted a small ring as a token. We went out and pick one together (cause I'd screw it up on my own) and I ended up spending over a months wages on it - some token that turned out to be.

Get the ring for her. She is female she will love to show it off.

Also not sure how other poeple feel about this and I'm probably insulting some people by saying it but if I ever get onto a motorcycle and me and my wife have matching clothes shoot me.

:surrender::surrender:

How about proposing when you're both on the motorcycle How much more romantic can it get? If she can't hear you, both of you could flip shield to "up" position on the full-face gear. No kissing though.

We have matching helmets and thats when it ends. I let my girlfriend pick out her engagement ring. She is one of the pickiest people I have ever met. I was impressed it only cost me $3000 instead of the $5500 I was expecting it to. Needless to say she hasn't gotten it yet. I am still trying to figure out the best way to do it. I am also working on buying a house so I'm thinking when I get that then I will propose. Sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread. I would say best of luck on the beemer. But she said save the money, so I would say you are SOL on the beemer.... congrats on the engagement.

BTW, a months salary is about right for an engagement ring (even more would be nice;))

Prebstar got me to pick my engagement ring. As he said, paying that amount of money for something I will wear for the rest of my life - I'd better like it :D

My opinion, if she loves you, she'll love the ring. It's the sentiment and the thought behind it that's important. Not how flashy it is and how it compares to her friends rings.

I don't like people who change their engagement rings to larger diamonds as they get more financially well off. My engagement ring is very special to me. I never want to change it, no matter how well off we are.

Now, if Prebstar wants to buy me ANOTHER big diamond ring for the other hand, well, I'm up for that LOL :D

The better half has mentioned that in conversations we have had. I asked her if she wanted to up size her diamond earrings I bought her and she said no. You bought them i will never get rid of them. Made me feel good :steve:

congrats man. You just reminded me that my anniversary is about a month away.
As far as the ring goes, well she won't be mad if you if you get her one you think she will like, she might be upset if you don't. If I think it is a test I try and error on the side of caution.
Realistically if you are going to be getting married you should be able to honestly talk about this stuff no games. She might know you are on a budget and not want to put you out. But, like somebody else said that ring is sentimental to her, every time she looks at it what she will see is that you love her not the size of the rock.
Congrats again you are in for one crazy ride, and so far it has been the best of my life.

first, congratulations. been married for 11 years and i have no regrets. we now have a 3 and a 5 year old. not much riding time (other than going to work) but i wouldn't trade them for all the riding time in the world.

second, get the ring if you want to get it for her. but all this "she really wants one" mess... i take people at their word. my wife and i have had a few (not many at all) "discussions" about this over the years. i can't be held accountable for believing what she says and doing what she asks. when we first met she told me she doesn't like flowers. after about 6 or 7 years of marriage i was "asked" why i never got her any flowers. guess who gets flowers now. :)

third, i agree on the matching gear. won't ever happen in my house.

Thank you, guys!

The thing about matching gear was sarcasm on my part. No flippin' way we are going to wear matching gear. Maybe... maybe boots, since i really like my Sidis and they dont come in a variety of designs for the same model, but that's about it.

As far as ring is concerned - and maybe i'm just stubborn - I am on the side of dean. If we have "i say this, but i really mean that and this is a test" - we need to talk about it - we are past the tests now and passive-aggressive behavior like that is indicative of a problem.
