Battery Tender

I wanted to purchase a battery tender to maintain my battery especially after running it down last week by leaving the key on. I looked on eBay and was about to buy one but I found a lot of people using this one from Walmart with much success. So I decided to try it out and for 20 bucks it seems nice enough.

Pictured above with the maintainer is a package for the accessory (lighter) plug that I purchased for $1.88.

The package included the maintainer and two options for charging that can be interchanged inline. Standard clips for direct to battery post or ring connectors than you could permanently attach to the battery. I have previously added a outlet direct to the battery and you can see the details here if you wish.

I cut the rings off and attached my accessory plug and plugged it into to outlet and it seems to be working well.

Had the maintainer on for 24 hours now and it seems to be working well. Battery now shows a charge of 13.34 instead of 12.14 which it showed before I started using it. Nothing is getting hot or even warm so seems to all check out. :thumbup:

i have that same one. i had it on all winter it works good for me as well. and for 20 bucks can't go wrong

This one works great for "maintaining" the battery as the name states...not so good if your battery is fully discharged though.

I left my key in the on position in the garage after work on Monday. Bought this little device from "WallyWorld"(aka Wal-Mart) and hooked up the quick connect to my battery and ran it through the frame so it sets right next to the front forks(looks sweet btw). then I hooked it up to the 1.5 amp charger. After about two minutes I got a red light saying my battery was toast Being the stubborn person I am...I threw my neighbors 10 amp charger on it for about 30-45 minutes(very scary:scared and then hooked the 1.5 amp back up for a good 4 hours and viola!:thumbup:... its fully charged! It feels good to be back on the road.

funny side note: I tried push starting it first yesterday..hahahaha! I was huffing and puffing and looking silly...I guess you have to have a little juice to get it push started.

Yup, battery maintainers are great. I have no personal experience with the Schumacher unit, but it seems like a nice unit for $25.

the one I have has saved me a couple of times. I have the one that you plug it into a outlet and the other side goes right to the battery. In our tool box area I keep a set of jumper cables so if the bike dies for whatever reason i just plug into my bike and then get jumped from another battery, or, from the plug that I have from the battery can go into any outlet.

Yeah.. when mine went dead I tried the same thing on a gravel driveway. I realized quickly that this dead battery was gonna cost me hundreds of dollars in repairs if I wasn't careful, so I stopped.
