ALMOST killed my battery today

Okay, this is related to a post I saw here not too long ago asking if you turn off your engine with the kill switch or the key. Well, for now on, I'm going to try to get in the habbit of using the key.

I pulled up to the Champions Honda Kawasaki Suzuki place <I know, I know... :ban: > because I needed to find a replacement for one of my pair of gloves. Well, I had turned off the engine using the kill switch, removed my gear, and went inside. I had left the key in the ignition... I'm lucky the bike didn't get stolen.

When I came out and saw the key there, I was happy the bike was still there, but that meant the headlights had been on while I was in Champions. I tried to fire up the bike and the started turned once, and the instrument panel faded out then came back on. Ut oh... not good.

I turned off everything went back inside for about 30 minutes and looked around a bit, then came out and tried again. It still had some trouble, but it did fire up. I then made the 20 minute home down the interstate. The ride home put a good charge back on it and seems to be fine.

I guess this post could also fit in the "What stupid thing have you done lately" catagory, eh?

Wish I had've seen this post about a month ago... I did the same, only there was no coming back to life for mine. Had to jump on the back of hubbies Vmax, go home, get a charger and come back to the store. Luckily I knew the guy that owned the store so he let me tap into his power for 30 minutes.Talk about embarrassing... being on the BACK of a Vmax I mean :shakehead:

You guys do know that if the battery dies you can always push-start it right? lol

Last year in college when I had my Honda V30, I had a dead battery for 2 months. I was plum broke and couldnt afford a new one. Good thing the parking lot was sloped, i could push the bike about 20 feet up it (motorcycles got to park closest) then get on the bike and start "running" I dont know how good it was for the engine, but I rode about 5 times a week doing that. Getting gas sucked b/c Theres no slope!

I never turn the bike off with the kill switch. I dont think ive ever done it that way

You didn't read the other post about dead battery did you !

If Your Battery is dead trying to push start the bike "FZ6"will get you nowhere

The fuel pump and computer both need power to run the bike :welcome:To the age of Electronics :stupidpc: .. Push that thing all you want all you will get is worn out :rof:
