All this time I knew it might happen... and it did!!

Motorcyclist on stolen bike leads police on chase - Cecil Daily: Local News

After talking to the officer, I came to know that the suspect was earlier spotted by him during off duty hours the previous day riding my bike wearing a motocross helmet. This made him suspicious, but he did not think of it much at that time. So the bike was stolen on wednesday, and the thief rode it all the time in plain view, to be caught only because of running a red light!!!

Once you get your bike back, could you possibly post what they did to your ignition to hotwire it? This is (fortunately) foreign territory to me, so I'm curious as to what he did and if it is at all preventable. Thanks....

Ack! I just read the article - said he dropped the motorcycle! Hope it did no extra damage. Sounds like your baby had a wild time while you were out of town!! ;) Thanks for sharing the article.

Here are the pics:

1. Broken Ignition :

Looks like the ignition was broken from below, the top part looked intact.

2. Dent on tank and scratched fairing :

3. Broken front reflector:

4. Bent registration plate, the left rear indicator is broken as well.

5. The AH did a burnout too on the brand new Metzler!! :(

Apart from this, the handle bar is damaged so much that I need to replace it. One of the bolts holding the tank is gone. A cable lock I had tied around the handlebar is gone too, although it was just wrapped around the handlebar to lock the helmets. Some minor scratches I can live with, but what ticks me off is the burn out !!!

I would DEFINITELY point that out to the insurance company!

If you liked the stock bars I have mine and another indicator(front) , and a set of grips that I will gladly trade for some authentic Indian food:thumbup:

Wow, your bike was involved in a high speed chase. Here I was envisioning just a simple pull over after running a redlight. Hopefully insurance gives you enough to fully restore the bike plus $2,000 more for the trouble and knowledge that your bike has been raped by a thief!

Thats awesome!!! Food will be arranged anytime you happen to pass by this way. Thanks again for stepping up to help in times of need!!

Now I need to get some real security to prevent the "ready to be lifted" bike from making the headlines again. Overall, this episode might end up sucking over 400$ (including towing) before the bike feels secure again :(

Yeah, I felt it might have been a routine stop too until I went to get the bike. But looking at the excitement the officers had in this case, I think it was a good adrenaline filled chase for them that had a good ending. This has been in the printed newspaper!!!

I cannot still believe the odds of finding a bike that is missing for more than 24hrs, without its owner knowing about it. All this and less than 10 miles from where it was stolen, still with its original number plate, and caught for a simple mistake of jumping a red light!!! Lucky Stars/Angels looking out huh!!

Need a quick suggestion:

The damages to the bike are pretty basic, and since it was recovered while it was still running, there might not be much damage to be fixed. The biggest part that needs to be fixed is the ignition. Do you guys think its worth going in for an insurance claim when I probably may not cross the deductible? Should I even report this incident?

Depends on how much its gonna cost to fix everything... if its avoidable i would not claim it and just fix it. Plus then the bike is still "clean"

+1 on the above.

Helluva story, glad it has a happy ending. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of front turn signal flushies do you have on there? Exactly what I'm looking for.

Thanks dude, good luck with the repairs.
