Might be a stretch but I'm gonna go with.........................oil

Use what the manual says. Some of the newer oil standards can be bad for older engines. That's beyond the scope of a simple forum post though. The guys from Royal Purple or Torco could probably explain it better than I could. Amsoil has a white paper that covers a lot of it too.
