A few months on...

Just thought i'd give a small write up as I've had the FZ6 a couple of months now.

I got the bike after passing my test in late Jan. Up until last week I hadn't used the bike much as I drive about 100 miles per work day so was opting for the car as the weather hasn't been great.

Last weekend the car's head gasket went so I was had to start driving the bike to work. Fortunately the weather has been great and i'm really enjoying riding.

I know have a good feel for the bike and my confidence is growing. Before I started riding to work i'd never really filtered through traffic but know after being thrown in the deep end I am much more comfortable.

Yesterday I thought I would give the bike a clean and try and sort out the chain as it was a mess. It was covered in black gunk and I actually thought the sprocket was black as there were none of the silver on show.

Here is the bike after I cleaned it. I want to try and adjust the brake and clutch lever today and move them closer to the grips.





Next week I will do the chain again and get the rest of the dirt off of it and i'll also have a crack at cleaning the headers.

Looks like you made a decent start with the cleaning, looking at the rear end.
May I recommend Autosol metal polish for the headers - available at Halfords and any car accessory shop? That and medium grade steel wool plus a few happy hours should see them gleaming. Mine do. Oh, and if you don't fancy getting your fingers all black, try nitrile gloves (blue), the preferred glove of mechanics.
Of course if you have a Dremmel........
You can hold a beer in one hand and still do the job properly! :BLAA:

Yeh as mentioned it didn't come with one unfortunately.

I have a tube of Autosol waiting for me to use, just need to get some steel wool.

I'm gonna look for some of those gloves and my hands were caked after cleaning the chain and I had to wash them about 30 times.

Try Kerosene for cleaning the chain and sprockets, it works wonders and is actually recommended by Yamaha for chain cleaning if I recall correctly.
