5.1 gallons? Ever been done?

I know specs state that the FZ6 tank capacity is 5.1 gallons but, you know, I've never even approached much near 5.0 gallons. Has ANYONE? This spec must be for squeezing every last drop into a completely empty tank....and lines! Any record holders out there? Geesh, I don't think I've ever gotten more than 4.6 or so and this is with 35 on "F trip"

I got just 39.3 miles on f-trip yesterday and decided not to chance it and fill up. I average 35-50 mph on the meter. I also filled 4.6 gallons.:stupidpc:

i noticed with center stand up you can fill some more.

the most I have ever gotten with 30 on f trip is 4.5 gallons and that was squeezing all I could with it on the center stand

I try to fill it when I hit the last bar. No point in taking chances.
I was pushing it once, and the gas station I was relying on (nothing after it for 30 miles) only had 87. I filled with a gallon and rode to the next one, filled with 91.
Point is, don't take chances.....

yes...sort of. I ran out of fuel and pushed it to the gas station. It took 4.958 gallons.

Well theres the answer we were all looking for. I ran out of gas once, I didnt think to check the milage though, I was to mad. LOL. had to call my mom to bail me out. That was when I was still a noob though.I know, I know :ban: I agree.

my personal record is 61.4 miles on reserve (combined with running out of gas). Since then I don't push it that much. I fill on the center stand and have added as much as 4.6 or so gallons. I now believe that the 5.1 gallons is the real total volume of the tank and fuel lines.

Well I have found that once on the centerstand I can get the most of the gas filled in. Also a gentle rocking movement of the bike will allow you to fill in more while topping up. I never go very far once on F so I usually get 4 to 4.2 US gallons in at most fillups.

I only use 87 since day 1 and any Yamaha mechanic said anything above is a total waste... Page 3-9 of your manual clearly even states regular...

Well, that mechanic may have been right, but the one time I filled up with 87 I got tons of knocking out of the engine. Needless to say, it's been 91 and 93 since and she runs beautifully. (Yes, I know, probably a waste too, but it's my money, right? :Flip

Hey, here's a stupid noob (even though I'm not) question for you guys. I've had the old girl for almost 3 years now and not ONCE had the gauge go into "F trip" mode. Does this pop up down where the odometer is? I always keep my little screen down there set to the tach reading, rather than odometer, so does anyone know if it'll show the "F trip" warning no matter how you've got it set? Wow...I feel like a total noob all over again! :ban:

Is it harmful to the engine to run that low on gas (if it's done with every tank of gas). Just wondering.

Isn't the fuel pump inside the tank? If so, that could be where the missing 0.2 gallons went(displaced by the volume of the pump) Just a theory.

18.39 litres is the most ive put in it now that was close.......Makes it 4.85 gallons and 392 kilometres or 243 miles for you northern folk :thumbup:

Same here, that's why I started using 91. It ends up being ~$1 more for a full tank, worth it.

The f trip replaces the odometer reading (or trip) reading, once f trip is displayed you can still use select to return to odo or trip at any time.
