2005 Tank Hinge

Hi all, should the tank hinge allow the tank to stay "up" by itself?
I had to prop it up with a small board to hold it up while I serviced the battery. If I lift it any higher, it bends the sheet metal tab that the front lip of the seat hooks to. Thanks.

you definately have to prop up the tank with something so the hinge itself is not designed to hold the tank in the up position. most people here use a cord or bungee to hold the tank up.
