Somebody PLEASE talk me out of this.....

Gary nailed it. If the stock spring rate is sub-ideal or the shock is no longer damping well (likely), there will be more benefit. That aside, the harder you ride the bike, the greater your roi, but if you intend to keep the bike, suspension is the best change you can make. I have R6 forks...

    Blown Engine Come Back

Sounds nice! Likewise, every time I think about replacing mine, I just can't justify it. If I blow another engine or have cash to burn, maybe. But it fills the "r6 that can carry my girlfriend comfortably" niche so well (after mods).

    Blown Engine Come Back

I was asking what specifically in this thread leads you to this conclusion? i.e. Why is "stock is good enough" the moral of this story? Not why is it the moral of your story. And sure, the 9 and its derivatives are marginally faster in a straight line than the 6, but that's only one part of...

    Blown Engine Come Back

You're drawing this conclusion for what reason? Before the swap, the first engine "blew", i.e. lost power in one cylinder, for unknown reasons. It could have been a failure with oem or aftermarket parts. I haven't torn it down and we may still never know. After the swap, the cylinder 4 spark...

    Blown Engine Come Back

I added a little bit of gas while probably still adding a little lean. No good :) I'd usually get a small slide at that track--the grip is excellent, but for probably two reasons I got no warning: 1. first lap, maybe the tire wasn't fully up to temp 2. not weighting the pegs/rear enough...

    Blown Engine Come Back

Thanks! There's really no better place to ride if you want to go fast or get better at riding. I still have fun on the street, and it's practical when the weather is nice, but you're really rolling the dice if you push hard. I've lost the front on the street twice and was lucky not to get hurt...

    Blown Engine Come Back

Thanks! The video is at High Plains Raceway in Colorado. I do ride/race at NJMP but on an R6. The FZ6 is a pleasure to ride on the track though. More comfortable, less power to worry about.

    Blown Engine Come Back

I had the bike dynoed last spring. PC V map supplied by the exhaust manu. was very rich causing the high rpm hesitation. Fixed on the dyno. Sheet attached. I've put some miles on the bike including a track day without issue since, knock on wood.

    Blown Engine Come Back

I cleaned the fuel pump filter, adjusted the TPS slightly (max reading was a little low), checked the spark plugs again (they looked fine), checked the valves, leak down tested (less than 1% leakage in all four cylinders), and pulled the PC V again. The bike rips to the redline in the higher...

    Putting money into an FZ6

The FZ6 is comfortable in traffic/at lows speeds, handles almost as well my R6 (full Penske suspension on both), and carries a passenger. You don't need the electronics because it's not overpowered, the power band is fun rather than scary, and it's not that likely to get stolen. I've yet to...

    Blown Engine Come Back

Gotcha. I suspect it has not been modified on either the old or new engine. I've now had a chance to ride the bike hard after changing the throttle bodies/injectors, coils and spark plugs (again) on the "new" engine. It still hesitates at 13k in 2nd gear and above. My plan, In order, at...

    Blown Engine Come Back

I just replaced the throttle bodies and injectors, and the ignition coils, with ebay parts. The bike seems to be running strong, but it's hard to find a place to hit the rev limiter even in 2nd gear in NYC during the day. Will take it out for a real ride when possible. The ECUnleashed work...

thanks for the note on the fan, that makes sense whole throttle body assembly including injectors! will update....

    Blown Engine Come Back

Plug(s) still look okay after another 60 miles of hard riding. 2 problems: 1. Hesitation above 12k in 2nd gear and above. Will install the PC speed sensor (skipped this), then go back to a zero map, and then pull the PC. I have low mileage throttle bodies and ignition coils on the way as...

    Blown Engine Come Back

"With that said, that little bit of additional flow wouldn't cause that plug "to go away".." My expectation as well; I think we'll have see how this one fairs after this next ride unless you already see a problem "If you ever put that unleashed ECU back in there, get a data logger!" What...

    Blown Engine Come Back

It's been a wet week! Here's the plug after 10 miles of hard riding. I think it looks okay. What do you guys think? I'm planning to take it out tomorrow morning for a 30 mile or so ride. Will check again after. I am running some Chevron Techron in the tank at present as a half measure for...

    Blown Engine Come Back

The fake plugs thing is of interest. I believe I bought the first set of plugs in the new engine from Autozone online. They were CR9EKs. I just replaced them all with CR9EIXs from Autozone in store. Given that the other 3 plugs were okay, my first hope is that the cyl 4 plug was just...

    Blown Engine Come Back

The recent problem with cyl 4 occurred without the PC. I left it out after swapping originally to remove the variable as you've noted. My concern now is getting more fuel in. Otherwise I would leave it out. I have a decat mid/riser pipe in addition to the unbaffled slip ons. My headers are...

    Blown Engine Come Back

Gotcha. I'll check plug 4 again after a short ride. Obviously my hope is that using the suggested map will solve the problem. Would the differential temps from a probe on the headers tell us anything? If the problem persists and is in fact just a problem with cyl 4, we've considered: - A...

    Blown Engine Come Back

Original case/old engine was the stock ECU for most of its life, then the stock ECU with a PC V and map, and then an ECUnleashed ECU and PC V with a zero map. Cylinder 4 case/new engine was a stock ECU and no PC V for about 30 miles before the problem in cyl 4. At present, I have the stock ECU...
