I have posted a link here to a video I just took this morning. It is a bottom's up view of my oil sump area, addressing the oil pump chain setup. The sprocket has some side to side play in it and the chain has some play, just wondering whether anyone knows whether this is normal or potentially...
I checked my timing chain the other day and the front run was not taught, it seemed kind of loose. Rear run was taught, top run not sure as i was only looking through the side cover. I also don't know if I was at TDC or not, but should there ever be any slack in the front run?
Is this a sign...
I'm getting a lot of noise from the bottom of the engine around the sump and i suspect the oil pump chain. Do you know how difficult it is to replace the chain and how to tell if it needs replacing?
Funny, we might have been in the area around the same time. eburtt and I went down into the adirondacks from Kingston, camped in Green Mountain National forest and then went up to Montreal for the Canadian Superbike Championships. (July 5-6)
Surprisingly the video turned out really well. The added weight of the gopro changes the resonant frequency of the mirror meaning it doesn't buzz when its attached. I did however from time to time, hold on the to tip of the mirror while filming because it would jump slightly from cracks or bumps...
Also, here is a clip of me bypassing some bison that were blocking the road in Grasslands National Park. The road was gravely with loose rock and was very tough to navigate. These two bison had settled right next to it and were preventing me from driving past. The ranger had warned me to give...
More pictures as requested! In the last picture, it's tough to see but the thin white line along the shore is not froth, it's slush/ice. Those last two are of lake superior in Ontario.
I'm no professional photographer whatsoever but DSLRs take hands down the best quality pictures. That's why I brought it despite the size. I figured since there's going to be amazing scenery that I should bring a camera that can capture that. These pics can actually be blown up and framed...
Okay so here is the detailed breakdown. I’ve attempted to categorize things to make it easy to navigate.
The bike:
Mechanical issues and maintenance:
The bike performed without major issue during the trip. I was doing a lot of miles per day though so maintenance does and will creep up on you...
I guess I wish I knew how easily things can just not go according to plan. I had planned out my first 6 campgrounds before leaving and ended up only staying at one of those six. Weather, distance and closed campgrounds (too early in the year) caused me to change all the others on the fly. Would...
My guess is the valves were slowly tightening and need to be re-adjusted soon. The throttle body is likely out of sync as well and I wonder whether this would make any noise. It certainly causes vibrations!
My bike also pulls left slightly. I noticed this on a trip I did recently, and at first I thought it was the weight distribution of my gear on the bike. I'm not sure anymore that this is the issue and here's why:
At some point during the trip my bike fell over and the handlebars became...
Just got back from an epic trip going from eastern Canada to the west coast of Washington and back down through the States, circling the great lakes. It took 24 days and I put 12,000 km on the bike. Here are a couple pictures!
This post I will keep short:
The bike performed really well...
Here is a pic of the damage. It's a small one inch screw in the recessed part of the thread. I pulled it out and mushroom plugged it with a stop and go kit. What is really unnerving to be fully honest is that no one seems to agree on this at all. I've been to three moto shops and one regular...
I'd like to bump this post up.
Does anyone have any experience with installing a tube into their tubeless tires? I just punctured my brand new PR3s and the guy at the shop said that legally, he could not patch them, but recommended plugging and inserting a tube for reassurance. Anyone done...
