This seat does not exactly cure the slope into the tank... instead it has more of a raised lip in the front that keeps you planted and prevents sliding forward as much. You can't really sit further back because there is a raised lip in the seat. I don't know if there is more paddign than...

Depends a lot on the traffic conditions and types of roads not to mention speed. For commuting I usually get around 38mpg. When I'm touring I get 45+

Sorry to hear about the fall... at least you came to no harm and only very minor bike damage. The bike only weighs 400lbs... most of us should be able to easily lift that with our legs.
