yes, just run the gas... lots of it as far as oil goes, there are 1.3 billion discussions about that right now. i could care less, 15/40 or 20/50 or whatever i have that isn't going in the truck ... will go in the bike. the only oil that is 'bad' is when there is a lack of it. :BLAA:

what kind of grips did you try before putting those expensive weights on the bars ? i got some $5 foam grips and all the vibrations are gone. that, plus a crampbuster throttle control and i can cruise for hours with no problems, stock bar end weights.

graphs and numbers- i'll let the factory guys worry with that stuff. they've done a very nice job in my opinion. if another bike makes more power at 28 billion rpm, great. :thumbup:

+1 about the standards and bike licensing. in the US it's a freaking joke to get a motorcycle license, buy a 1000cc bike, and get insurance. you can literally (legally) go from dreaming of a bike to owning and legally riding one in a day. no experience, no training, no respect or expectation...

put crash bars and sliders on the fz. fully insure it, not liiability. check the tires, brakes, and oil every time you walk buy it.... to get on your $1100 rebel 250 (that you're going to buy on craigslist). ride the rebel for a year. like 15,000 miles of riding. parking lots, dirt, gravel...

+1 on the gs being more of a breeze around town. for commuting or <40 mph traffic, i'd rather have the gs. it's not as snatchy, not as ready to run. unfortunately, the gs is carb'd, and oil cooled though. it's a give and take, the fz definitely doesn't like 20-30mph 'idling' down the road. or...

do a track day now and again ? the sv1000 was a very good recommend. nice grunt, without needing the speed. f4I is a great bike, but I wouldn't trade a similar age/condition fz AND loose 2grand for it.isn't the f4I considered a higher insurance bracket also ?

nothing spectacular, just a no-longer-being developed housing development. endless cul-de-sacs and fairly fresh pavement. kept taking the lefts and rights until it felt a little ragged. i slide into LEFT hand turns alot more naturally. right handers feel like i'm having fighting a left/right...

oh, just remembered, the fz1 is considered a liter bike on my insurance, so it would cost$450 more per year to insure. 3 years of joy = $1500 more expense over the fz6. guys said he gets 35-45 mpg also. i believe so far i'm getting 50-65 depending. have to check. :)

was it the efi model or carbs ? i haven't ridden a efi model fz1 yet, but the carbed model i rode was sooooo smooth. not quite honda (vfr) smooth, but very nice. never felt like i needed to rev it, good bottom end grunt. more stable on a windy day too. terrible wind protection compared to...

+1 change the plugs again. there is a wire shorting. also, when that teflon tape starts to let go you'll be 40 miles from home. do it right, retap the hole next size up. if you're not that handy, pay a machinist $30 and rest easy.
