Valve Adjustments, have you had it done?

Yes, sorry. It was the stinking chain. I didn't realize how the chain could make it ride so poorly. It still stalls on idle at high altitudes, but I have not balanced the carbs or adjusted the idle. I will check the valve timing then do that task following, and I would imagine the stalling...

    Chain Changing Howto?

Thanks for the tip. I purchased a DRC chain tool when I purchased my kit. VERY easy to use. I wish I would have known how easy it was; I would have done it a long time ago. Also, I ordered new sprockets to go along with my new chain. The originals were not even worn looking. The ebay store...

    Chain Changing Howto?

Using google to find a tutorial on changing the chain, I only find one with broken video links. The repair manual seems pretty clear, but it has me taking of the exhaust system and the swing arms. That seems like a lot of extra effort. I am changing the sprockets as well. Is this all...

Valve Adjustments, have you had it done?

I am going to be checking my valve clearance. The bike has been riding rough about the last 500 miles. It was running rough when it needed plugs as well. However, it had much more hesitation and even stalls from a standing start. On my last road trip I noticed it just ran rough in low to mid...

    OEM Chain or 3rd Party?

Any tips for changing this above and beyond the repair manual? I want to start on it today. Do I need to take the swingarm off as the manual states? The manual is even calling for removing the exhaust to the swingarm out. A pain just to change a chain. Thanks, Chris Maness

    OEM Chain or 3rd Party?

Have you heard of anyone getting that many miles with a third party chain? Chris

    OEM Chain or 3rd Party?

I am looking to replace my chain here in the next couple of weeks. I was able to get about 26k miles out of the OEM chain. However, that OEM chain is very expensive from Chaparral. Does anyone here have any experience with generic O-ring chains and or sprockets? Should I just stick with the...

    Shifting problems

I greased all the pivot points and linkages for the gear shift, and that solved the problem. Chris

How Long Does the OEM Air Filter Last?

I am wondering how long the air filter lasts in my FZ6. I notice the maintenance schedule says check @4k and 20k. However, it does not mention how often it needs to be replaced. I was lagging a bit on maintenance (other than oil), and was starting to get hesitation at low RPMS. I changed the...

    Shifting problems

This problem happens at speed. It is not related to trying to run down all the gears at once when approaching stop. I am aware that this is normal for the fz6. It always behaves this way. This is a separate issue that occurs when the bike has been ridden for several hours or is really warm...

    Shifting problems

I found another post that detailed this problem. I went ahead and used white Lithium grease on the shift linkages. However, just like the other poster, this seems to be a temperature issue. It only happens after riding all day long. Once it cools off the problem goes away. I had noticed my...

    Shifting problems

I am having the same issues, and it does not seem to be related to shifting correctly. I have tried releasing the clutch every shift, and it still has a problem. I will try to lube the shift cable to make sure it is coming all the way back between shifts like the second poster said. Chris

    Changing the Front Tire

On my XJ750 I was able to put the bike on the center stand and use a car jack on the frame so that I can change the front tire. However, the FZ just has pipes down there. I was wondering what you guys do to support the front when taking the tire off. Thanks, Chris Maness
