I watch the tach while keeping in mind that the alternator does not assure charging until 5 k. If it is a short distance through a village I'll be at 3.5 to 4 k, otherwise the gear that keeps it in the 5 k area is selected. Since I run with the high beam on during the day (advised in the NYS...
While making a tight left turn at speed on a twisty road last fall visor-up a bee flew into the helmet and got between my glasses and right eye. After squinting, swearing and making a fast stop the bee thankfully flew out but left me with the conviction to always keep the visor fully down at...
Same experience with the first oil change on an 09 FZ6, no oil drain washer. Verified that there was nothing stuck to the drain bolt so concluded it was omitted on assembly. Picked up a couple at the dealer, $1.00 ea.
Old stuff from an old guy, some from the 60's!. Like the saying goes: "Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional"
Scuba drift diving the Niagara river 3 times , once to the north end of Grand Island. (within 3 miles of the falls).

Mine did that (reverted to intake temp) about ten times in the first 3000 miles without touching the reset or select buttons, it did it on a hot restart. Was considering reporting it to the dealer as it's on warranty but lately it's been fine.
Same thing happened to me two weeks ago on an oil slick at an expressway rest area. Broke in the same pattern and I drilled and tapped it as a temp repair. Since I have to replace one I'm thinking about doing both, going with a different style that's less obtrusive.
100%. My bike came from the dealer with “coon hunting lights”. As it is the high beam left adjustment is maxed out and only serves to make the road signs really bright. Perhaps Yamaha wants to make it just difficult enough that most will leave it to the dealer for “proper” adjustment but to me...
+1 on the FZ1. The FZ8 is a new model with new engine that certainly has bugs that have yet to be discovered. An old rule is “Never buy the the first model year”. The FZ1 is time tested, more bang for the buck and loads of accessories are available. No heft penalty as Yamaha lists them as the...
Not such an Noob question, experienced riders have different opinions on when to lube.
The book says every 500 miles. If you do a search on this forum you will find opinions vary on what to use and when to use it. I have seen here and on other forums everything from “never” to “never stop”...
It's a fuel system fault code. Er-1 is “No communication or unreadable communication”, possible cause listed as faulty wiring or wiring connector. You might check for loose connectors or corrosion on connections first. Perhaps when it was laid down wires may have frayed or broken. Good luck!
My figures and findings are exactly the same up to the passenger. Mine weighs 105 lbs. And for her “5” is the perfect setting for two up, “6” is a bit harsh.
