    How many rpms...

I watch the tach while keeping in mind that the alternator does not assure charging until 5 k. If it is a short distance through a village I'll be at 3.5 to 4 k, otherwise the gear that keeps it in the 5 k area is selected. Since I run with the high beam on during the day (advised in the NYS...

    Full Faced Helmet

While making a tight left turn at speed on a twisty road last fall visor-up a bee flew into the helmet and got between my glasses and right eye. After squinting, swearing and making a fast stop the bee thankfully flew out but left me with the conviction to always keep the visor fully down at...

    oil drain bolt gasket missing?

Same experience with the first oil change on an 09 FZ6, no oil drain washer. Verified that there was nothing stuck to the drain bolt so concluded it was omitted on assembly. Picked up a couple at the dealer, $1.00 ea.

What can you say you have done....

Old stuff from an old guy, some from the 60's!. Like the saying goes: "Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional" Scuba drift diving the Niagara river 3 times , once to the north end of Grand Island. (within 3 miles of the falls). High School record in hurdles. Saw the Bob Hope show...

Temp Gauge stuck at 100 F

Mine did that (reverted to intake temp) about ten times in the first 3000 miles without touching the reset or select buttons, it did it on a hot restart. Was considering reporting it to the dealer as it's on warranty but lately it's been fine.

I need the left mirror to an 07' FZ6

Same thing happened to me two weeks ago on an oil slick at an expressway rest area. Broke in the same pattern and I drilled and tapped it as a temp repair. Since I have to replace one I'm thinking about doing both, going with a different style that's less obtrusive.

Headlight adjustment (what idiot designed this?)

100%. My bike came from the dealer with “coon hunting lights”. As it is the high beam left adjustment is maxed out and only serves to make the road signs really bright. Perhaps Yamaha wants to make it just difficult enough that most will leave it to the dealer for “proper” adjustment but to me...

    FZ1 or FZ8, which one?

+1 on the FZ1. The FZ8 is a new model with new engine that certainly has bugs that have yet to be discovered. An old rule is “Never buy the the first model year”. The FZ1 is time tested, more bang for the buck and loads of accessories are available. No heft penalty as Yamaha lists them as the...

    What's your chain lube?

Not such an Noob question, experienced riders have different opinions on when to lube. The book says every 500 miles. If you do a search on this forum you will find opinions vary on what to use and when to use it. I have seen here and on other forums everything from “never” to “never stop”...

    Crash and Errors

It's a fuel system fault code. Er-1 is “No communication or unreadable communication”, possible cause listed as faulty wiring or wiring connector. You might check for loose connectors or corrosion on connections first. Perhaps when it was laid down wires may have frayed or broken. Good luck!

    Suspension on 1?

My figures and findings are exactly the same up to the passenger. Mine weighs 105 lbs. And for her “5” is the perfect setting for two up, “6” is a bit harsh.

    Bar End Mirrors

Look like great mirrors, how do you plug or hide the parking place for the stock mirrors on the fairing?

    Thin paint

Same same, made a few gentle passes with some automotive rubbing compound on the grab bars to blend a cargo net hook scratch and went right through the paint. Fortunately it was on the underside of one of the rails and is not obvious. Then a small bungee cord wrapped around the bar left a...

    frame sliders

PSRs are 2 7/8" and 2", they work at that length. Perhaps the reason they are not designed longer is leverage. The longer they are the more likely they will snap the bolt or crack the frame on impact. If you can't find them long enough to suit you a local machine shop should be able to cut some...

    Oil filter help

Discovered something about Yamaha filters last month by cutting the 600 and 4000 mile oil change filters apart. Used a chisel to minimize grindings and opened the very heavy steel cans. The filter media is a thick material like felt material, not pleated paper and very well built. The felt...

My New Ingenious Sat Nav Mount

Great location for minimal eye movement when riding, less than when checking the speedo and tach. This is my next project and am going to call it the A2 mount if anyone asks, great mod!

    Bungee Net?

Picked mine up at my local Yamaha dealer for $10.00. The plastic hooks will scratch the heck out of the painted bars. My guess is they made the hooks very dense for strength and it turned out to be harder than the paint, Yoshiki may well have a different, softer set of hooks. I found out too...
