I hope you are not thinking of a Harley, when you think of all V twins. A modern V twin at triple digit speeds is a very smooth engine.
I would have no trouble with the SV as an everyday bike.
Get the SV. V twin are fun. However, it is not technically newer. The SV motor began life as the motor for the late 90s TL1000.

I like the OEM because they do last a long time, but I was looking for more bite. I want something that will enhance the braking of the bike, knowing they will not last as long as OEM.
I would never buy cheap aftermarket. The money saved is not worth it.
I was around in the 70s, and those seats were terrible.
As for modern bikes, it all depends on what they are offering. I do not like excess weight, a "sit up and beg" seating position, or shaft drive.
When it comes to sport touring, I want the emphasis on "sport", instead of "touring".
Mileage alone is not cause for cracked frames. Probably the bike that have been ridden hard probably have relatively low mileage.
The TPS, throttle position sensor. There was a bad batch of them. It affected 04 and 05 modes mostly. Yamaha issued a recall and later on, the NHTSA issued a...
I never understood this. There are plenty of people who do long multi day trips on naked bikes with small tanks.
If you look back before BMW invented the sport tourer, riders were crossing this country on 400cc naked bikes. It makes it sound like today's riders are a bunch of Nancy boys. :D
I also tour on a naked monster. The monster has a small tank as well. That just means more stops for refueling. I do not mind. I am not participating in some Iron Butt event.
I do not consider the FZ6's small fairing to be all that helpful, either.
