parking situation

alright so i got my new bike and with my current riding situation i have to put it in a shed at night. it is kind of a pain in the butt to get it in there and i don't get home until 3am so the last thign i want to be doing in the dark is putting it away.

i am thinking of a small parking space. i do have a dirt driveway so i can't just slap the kick stand down, i fear my bike falling while i am asleep.

option one was going to poor a little concrete slab for the bike like 5 feet long and 3 feet wide. a little bit for work but i would feel safe my bike wouldn't fall

option two is just to get a little steel plate like 4 inches around and put that under the stand at night.


am i over thinking this or will the steel plate be just fine for parking over night.

Steel plate or a thick piece of plywood should do the trick. Pouring concrete seems too much trouble. But the question that you should be asking yourself, is your bike secure? Putting it inside a shed, even without a lock, would provide the old saying "out of sight, out of mind"

metal plate would be a good idea, maybe sand it to get some grip. You can also use a crushed soda/beer can

yea maybe i will check out some of the patio blocks... from what i can remember though they are kinda brittle.

not really many people near by plus i have left many other things out that have never got touched. and isn't that was we buy insurance for anyways :thumbup: don't want it to happen but at least i would be covered

I would love to park my bike on the curb in front of my house, but I have a fear that I'd wake up some morning and find it gone. Probably a couple of people could lift it into a van without much effort. It's a big headache to get it into the garage, as the door is only openable from the inside. Who else leaves their bikes outside overnight?

You can also use a crushed soda/beer can

+1. Anything that's solid and has a decent size "footprint" to keep it from sinking in dirt and sand should work okay. You could try using the center stand too.

Unfortunately I still live in an apartment so the bike is parked out front. Luckily my window overlooks the parking lot. I scraped the dirt out from under one of the bumper blocks in the lot and ran a cable and lock under the block and through my rear wheel. Between that and keeping the bike covered so far its worked out fine. Probably should have invested in an alarm instead of my LeoVince's WHICH SHOULD ARRIVE TODAY!!! :rockon:

If you are considering the concrete..... find an a/c supply store and they may have a pad made of styrofoam and concrete or just plain ol plastic.... quicker than pouring.
