Even the sensible among us have moments where their safety consciousness slips and they do something, quickly realizing afterwards they shouldnt have done and it could have ended badly.

What is the stupidest most dangerous thing youve ever done?? Be honest though, it doesnt make you a squid or anything it just makes you human, having a brain-fart.

I was 17 on my Yamaha XS 100,
It had jota bars, micron exhaust and a Stan Stephens stage 3 re-bore and polish.
I could get an indicated speedo reading of 92mph.
At the time I thought I was the fastest thing since Barry Sheene.
So I was riding down a very twisty road in a residential area. The road was about 3 miles long and at the midway point it had a very nice right to left chicane.
I was going about 55mph as I entered this chicane, I got my entry totally wrong and when I exited I found myself on the wrong side of the road with an old Volvo estate bearing down on me. I knew that I would not be able to turn the bike into the correct side of the road before impact so I went towards the right. I managed to go up a lowered curb (don't know how) and ride along the toe path doing about 50mph. The toe path was not level and I was going up and down like a jack hammer. I finally managed to stop when I hit a large hedgerow.
Fortunately God was looking down on me that day and apart from requiring a hot wash for my jeans I didn't have a mark on me.
From that day on I never speed in residential areas.

SQUID um sorry Nelly

For me it had to been rolling too fast down CA-91 East in Riverside, California cutting traffic. Not that I have anything against splitting lanes because I think it's absolutely awesome, it was a dangerous moment for me because when I started to split everyone else was jamming on the brakes and the gap closed REALLY FAST! Talking about a pucker! Now that's my street story. My dangerous moment on the track happened when I was down shifting. I was down shifting really fast and when into neutral in a quick turn with other riders on my tail. When I went to accelerate, nothing happened. Man did that freak me out.

The other day I was heading north on the Interstate when I saw a motorcycle in my side mirror. He wa sgaining on me so I thought let's see what he is made of. So I got into the fast lane and cranked on the throttle, at 90mph he was still gaining, the fast lane was open so I kept going faster, at 120 he was still gaining and I thought this is crazy. So I slowed down to 80 he came along side of me, I think it was a 1100 Honda CDR or something so I didn't feel so bad. But thinking back it was really stupid. Ifens a car had changed lanes the fire truck would have just hosed the red splotch of the interstate, and Grandma would have been really mad at me.

Up in Maryland few yrs. back riding the Vulcan cruiser on backroads(hwy.29 I think) in a group of bout 30 bikes. Entering a 90 degree left w/ gravels strewn in the curve, everybody started jamming on brakes. I'm mid-pack trying to keep an eye on the skidding chopper in front of me and bike rolling up close on my immediate left. Changed my line in mid-curve only to realize I'm inches from the pavement edge, too late to do anything but straighten it out and go in the ditch. Dropped bout foot and a half, hard...tucked in tight as the rear swung way right, slapped the gaurd rail and amazingly straightened back in line of the ditch, doing bout 40-45 mph. Shot back into the road and found a safe spot to do pants check.

Me and my cousin had Honda trail 90's growing up. We used to make dirt ramps and try to jump them. Evel Knevel was at the apex of his career and we thought he was the shizz. But one time we played chicken and locked the bikes up. Somehow we managed not to rip out feet off or some other serious injury that could have occured. We got mad at each other and started fighting right there on the spot. Good times as long as no one was seriously injured. We still laugh about that one.

Hmmm....There are soo many stories over the years but I will keep it relevent to bikes. Bought my fizzer May 7 2008 and its my first bike ever. I've got a total of 6 weeks riding experience and about 2400 miles.
I've cranked the bike up a few times in the last 6 weeks but two days ago I got a bug up my @ss to see if I could get up over 137 indicated which previously had been my personal top speed. Soo picked an empty stretch of local 3 lane hwy and cranked it up. Its about 1030 pm and I'm feeling really good. I'm 6'0 260 and with a nice tuck I achieve my pb of 141 indicated. Still feeling pretty good and mega-exhilerated I slow to about 75 for an off ramp onto another hwy. I clear the ramp and kick it up to around 95 when I notice the flashing lights behind me. Sh1t!! Throw the 4 ways on and gradually bring it to a stop. I turn off the bike and pull gloves and helmet off and the trooper directs me to get off the bike. He asks in a dissappointed fatherly voice "do you know how fast you were going"? I did but said no. "I was paying attention to the roadway". I asked him if he clocked me and he said no but it took him 7 miles to catch up to me and had been pacing me for the last mile. Phew! At least that wasn't the "Just give me your license, I'm towing your bike" part of my high speed run. Now, I have a "get out of jail free" card that works for some traffic offenses but its never a guarantee. Fortunately it worked this time. Still in his dissappointed fatherly voice the trooper asked be if I could imagine crashing at 100+ mph. I could but I said no. He told me about a bike wreck he had gone to earlier in the night where the rider had severly broken his leg and got busted up pretty bad and that had happened at only 40 mph. The trooper still looking like the disappointed father told me to "think" before the next time I do something stupid, "have a good night" and got back in his car and pulled off. I sat on the side of the road for another minute before continuing on my way home at a slow and reasonable rate. This event has helped wear off the novelty of being able to go faster than I ever have in my life. I realize that though I felt in control of the bike, at that speed, just about anything could have gone wrong and there would have been almost nothing I could have done about it. I've slowed my riding down now on general principal. Things could have gone very very wrong for me...........:Sport:

First bike didn't have a fuel gauge, but did have a half-gallon reserve tank that was accessed with a switch under the tank. I hadn't been riding it very long, didn't have much of a sense of what range a tank would give me. While riding it on the superslab during rush hour at about 70 mph, all the sudden the engine starts coughing and eventually stalls! I was in the second from the right lane, and the right lane and shoulder was open, so I was easily able to coast off the road, and switch the tank to the reserve, start her up, and get back home. It was pretty scary to think what would have happened if I'd not been able to get to the shoulder. To that point, I hadn't practiced switching to the reserve tank, wasn't sure if the engine would immediately restart, and didn't know if I could even find the lever while at speed. So I was unprepared for the situation, but Bad Luck was looking the other way. When I started looking to replace that bike, one of my criteria was that it have a fuel gauge.

I jumped over a railroad track, in front of a moving train, just so I didn't have to wait for it to pass by.

I'll tell you something right now:

Just don't do it.

I've only had my (first) bike for 2.5 weeks, and for one of those weeks it was in the shop getting some recall work done. As such, I haven't really had time yet to do anything particularly stupid.

However, this thread reminds of my favorite 'biker with a death wish' story.

There I was in my cage, making the daily trip home from Rockford on I-88, I tend to drive 'fast' on the Interstate and keep the cruise set at 78-80.

I came up on a bike with a car tailgating it, thought 'sheesh guy, back off the bike, for crying out loud' and kept on driving.

As I passed, the bike sped up to my pace and 'parked' along my right side. He kept looking into my window, but I ignored him.

This stretch of road is usually pretty clear, so I'll usually change lanes to pass, and get back into the right lane. But, Mr. Deathwish wasn't having any of it. I sped up, he sped up, I slowed down, he slowed down - always with his front tire even to mine. Giving up and wishing I was closer to my exit, I settled back on my cruising speed and drove on, in the left lane.

By and by, a state trooper came up from behind, in a hurry, as usual, but with no lights or siren - just getting from A to B, I suppose. Knowing that Mr. Deathwish wasn't about to let me by, I clicked off the cruise and coasted down to about 45-50 MPH before he got the hint and started pulling away, allowing me to finally get over to let the LEO by.

The LEO zipped past me, and Mr. Deathwish, assuming it was me, begins his 'park alongside' routine with the LEO. The LEO gave a stern look in his direction, just as Mr. DW glanced over to examine his quarry. (heheh) Surprised, Mr. DW slowed down and the LEO sped up and away, (Pull him over!, I shouted) exiting a short while later. As soon as he was gone, Mr. DW sped way up and disappeared into the distance...or so I thought.

The miles went by, I sighed some relief, and drew closer to my exit. About a mile before my exit, there's Mr. DW, again, slowly creeping along, waiting for me?

Not wanting to tip off Mr. DW, I didn't change my speed or use my signal as I approached the exit, the distance between us continued to close. Closer and closer, I could see that he was watching me approach in his mirror, waiting until the last possible moment to speed up. The temptation to downshift and floor it was overwhelming, when...exit! I narrowly missed him, as I passed him just as I got over to exit - oh, how I wanted to go straight and turn him into a grease stain, on the road, that is, he's obviously a stain on humanity all the time.

Mr. DW and I parted ways then, but I think of him from time to time. Mostly about knocking his stupid ass into the ditch...

Mine doesnt have anything to do with motorcycles.

I have been shooting guns for as long as i can remember. At least twice a month since i was 10 or so. My dad and i get together at his property and let the lead fly. We have targets and old cars to shoot at. Very fun if you ever get the chance to blow out the glass of a car with a 50cal. Anyway i remember being about 12 yrs old at the time and my dad was letting me shoot his tommygun. I had only put in 12 rounds because the 72 round drums are a pain in the butt to load, plus i was 12 and hadnt had much experience with that gun. As i shot at the dirt pile i counted the shots out, the only problem was that i hadnt counted the shell that was already in the gun when i loaded it. So after i counted to 12 i stopped firing and walked towards my dad. He asked if the gun was empty and i nodded to him while at the same time pulling the trigger to confirm it was empty. The gun went off and the round stuck in the tree my dad was standing next to. Missed him by about 6 inches.

Like i said not related to motorcycles but a very stupid moment on my part. I have only shot that gun about 3 times since then, it still gives me the creeps to think about it.

Today I had to take a leak real bad and stood along side my bike and did my thing and the wind started ripping and pee`d all over the front end .. that has got to be my most stupid thing I did lol :(

Probably the first top speed run on my FZ6, When you let off the throttle it comes off quick.. Loaded the front up pretty hard and was a ruff ride for a sec. until I eased back into it and geared down the rest (I really thought I was gonna loose it:jawdrop:)... I've been way faster on a RACE bike but they are generally better suited for such... The fz6 was not built for that kinda speed and you actually start pushing the bike's limits which is bad news.... My 929 would run a 150 in 5th gear, And felt real nice!!!! Speed's for the race bikes, The fz6's power is built for passing semi's not hauling major @$$... But I had to push the limit..... I just had to....

Beyond that being suicidal, he probably also did millions of dollars of damage. When trains need to stop fast, they have a way to dump sand on the rails in front of their wheels. Adds extra friction. They lock the wheels and they grind down flat against the rails. Can't move again. But it does take 1/4 mile for a freight train to stop, so if someone jumps out right in front, they probably just sit on the horn and clean off the mess at the next stop.

I unloaded mine off of the trailer with a flimsy ramp on a gravel driveway while alone. ;)

I had a very squidly moment last year showing off for J. we were almost home from a ride and I do this awesome stoppie in front of her, only she didn't expect it and was following me pretty close. she almost hit me and darn near dropped her bike because of me.:squid::squid::squid: then (going back 9 years) there was the time, I gave her, her first ride on a bike. I had my ZX9 and she was scared of motorcycles and I some how convinced her to go for a ride with me. we leave my house and the bike was on E so I pulled into a gas station and just as I'm lowering the kick stand she gets off the high side of the bike using me and the bike as a push off and my foot was to close to the bike so I had no leverage to hold it up and over we(me and the bike) went. I landed on my side and back and luckily was still holding the bars so the bike never hit the ground. I'm laying there holding the bike up and she just starts laughing(as she pulls her helmet back on) I get instantly pissed and start yelling at her "don't just stand there get this F-ing thing off me." which she didn't so I had to do this ballerina dance to get out from under the bike and pick it up with out dropping it.... then there was this time... in big bear, I was going to go on a group ride with some Buddy's and she wanted to go. only she used to be the worst passenger( counter leaning in corners, turtle F-ing me every time I braked or shifted) so anyways I told her NO you can't go, and she was all sad, so she kept asking me. so I tell her, lets go for a ride around are house, I'm going to try and scare the crap out of you, if you do anything stupid you can't go. she was the perfect passenger( only later did she tell me she had her eyes closed most of the ride) so were riding big bear, we are on the 18 on the north side of the lake when we (the group) decide to pull off into one of those dirt turn outs. I was a little hot pulling off the road and slid a little. I just about had the bike recovered when (the second time she did this to me)she jumps off the high side (once again using me as a push point) and once again down we go. luckily for me the bike (1980 Yamaha XS850 special) had crash bars on it so it never hit the ground. and then there was the time...

just kidding thats it for me. :D:squid:

Getting real pissed off with the girlfriend, a belly full of bear jumping on the bike, riding like a lunatic, in suburbia, enough so to scare the crap out myself. Realised me drunk and the bike not good together.:(

Truthfully....The most dangerous/stupid thing I've ever done on a bike was at age 15 w/girlfriend. We went out to her uncle's cattle ranch for some trail riding and wound up going skinny dipping. When it came time to dry off, she came up with the idea of riding nude and air drying (who was I to say no).....She was always a daring lass and decided to "tank ride" in front of me facing backward....Dangerous? Stupid?.....Do you have ANY idea how impossible it was for a 15 Y/O to focus in that environment? Here we are riding around in a knee high grass hay meadow with NO gear, nude.....It's a wonder I didn't drive us straight through a fence or into a tree.....Thinking back, the roads weren't really as far away as they seemed at the time....We could have caused a wreck on the county road as well LOL
